8v manifolds are like buses on here at the moment, but here are my questions if you can help
Looking at the picture, the inside is WHITE...... I've had the wire brush at it and it really is deeply embedded in it, so why would this be?
Also, what are the 2 studs that have no thread used for?

Heatshield, and/or the pipe sending warm air to the airbox?

White is usually a sign of running lean, as Digifant cars often do, or possibly some fuel treatment.

Thanks gents. I'm hoping that as mine is an early GTi that it doesnt have that warm air sort of box, as it is missing otherwise.
Hopefully rubjonny will clarify if I should have it.
I'm still annoyed at getting the wrong steering boot cover. Bloody car.
But the manifold is soaking in some de-rust solution, so will hopefully come up good

I object to that engine picture, on behalf of all of those with rusty bolts, oil leaks, missing covers, chipped paint....

you should have the warm air shroud setup, but you dont need it so often deleted. its to help engine warm up a bit quicker when its really cold, in reality here in the uk it doesnt really make a huge difference

unless you have a 2e2 carb, then you'll find the car conks out all the time in the cold or wet when the carb turns into a solid block of ice

I am hoping to put the car back to standard, so if it should have then.... but, the bottom of my airbox is blocked where it looks like a pipe would go.
And I do want to have some sort of heat shield instead of a rusty bulkhead again.

So what colour would the manifold have originally been? Mine may have been painted by someone before, but de-rusting has left me with this.
I may have to get it blasted

if you havent got the warm air flap gubbins in the bottom then dont worry about it, its vacuum controlled by a temp sensor which sits in the side of the air box or the rubber inlet boot

the manifold would have just been the grey colour of clean base metal, but it'll go rusty very fast
