Ive recently removed my 16v lump and dropped an 8v in there for the extra torque and greatly improved fuel economy. The thing flies now.

I must admit, everyday driving is now a lot easier and stress free. The 16v was almost impossible to drive. My only concern is the increased torque of the 8v means i have to wear a travel pillow to stop myself from getting whiplash everytime i accelerate.

its got to be an 8v GTI for the road and a 16v gti for the track;)

the 8v has a torque band much earlier in the rev range thus giving better acceleration from 70mph through to 100mph (or more[:D] ) and with the right airflow setup on the digifant can go a lot further then the vw spec.

the valver on the other hand picks up where the 8v is almost asthmatic and give a better peaking tourque band due to it quad valve overlap. but with the right cam durations can give so much more, making it better for trackdays.

Totally disagree, the 16v will almost complete this range (70-100) in 3rd gear whilst screaming its nuts off, which is what it does best. Whereas the 8v will be knackered after 80 in 3rd.

Check these figures out, not sure of the accuracy or where the information is obtained from:

Would it be worth me removing 8 valves from my 16 valver to get this legendary extra torque?

well according to those figure's a MK3 16V is heavier than the MK4 2.0??? not sure on that one... an 8v would not be quicker than a 16 from 70-100, as this is when the 16v is into its stride and will be high in the rev range hence making max torque which is higher than an 8v.... youv'e been watching too much top gear sutton!!!!

8v are SH*T and everyone knows it!!!!

Let me say that again, 8v are SH*T!!!!

They are pig slow and not worthy of the GTI badge, besides they were only badged gti in uk, so i beleive!

16v are allot quicker anywhere in rev range

Let it go 8v boys and girls!!

    Phew....... i feel better now:lol:

Probably they are better to drive in town becuase of more low down torque and less lag.
