sorry should have said (in fifth gear) the 8 valve has better acceleration to 100, much better pickup. in my experience. and to be fair it all depends on the individual car and engine as they all vary considering the age and mileage on some of them now.

You've had some duff 16vs then. The 8v has a leggier 5th, I used to always put an 8v box on my valvers because the 5th gear gave you slightly better motorway mileage but did make it a bit slower in 5th. I rarely drive my valver these days, but when I take it out and compare it to the ancient 8v I have in my mum's garage, the 16v with the original gearbox will smoke it every time in every gear...

Boys used to meet up for fights at the M6 services after a hearty 8/16 debate.

Limbs have been lost over this very subject.

That's how i have Titanium going through my leg.

Or maybe it was the 8v Torque that ripped it apart:

Going back a while I went to my local for a quick pint with the missus. Pulled on the car park and there was a nice group of chavs sitting outside admiring each others rockport, unshaven upper lip areas etc.

As I walked past them they were muttering amongst eachother "they never made that model in 16v etc etc" generally thinking they knew what they were talking about.

I dont know why but to this day it really really winds me up when I think about it. I wish id just turned round, walked them up to the car opened the bonnet and displayed the fury beneath.

Why is it when people see a 16v logo on the front grill of your car they assume youve stuck it on yourselves?

Thankfully now I have dropped an 8v lump in it, i can save myself this torment and remove the 16v badge.

It was touch and go, im still on medication and undergoing some counselling for the trauma. But im slowly on the mend. 16v's should carry a serious health warning.
