B'ah, had a look at the ECU and no obvious numbers from the outside. There was a part no on the black plastic bit on a narrow end of the ECU but did not seem the same as the two i posted above. where exactly is the eprom chip no? will it be marked on the outside of the ECU?

want to try one of these out.

Hi Andy, did you write down the number on your ecu? The chip I've got is suitable for revisions 037 906 024D /24B / 24AB / 24BE.

The eprom chip number should also be stamped on the chip itself, this requires opening up the ecu to read it. Otherwise, if you have access to VAG COM, just run a auto-diagnostic which reads the fault codes and it should read the eprom code aswell (how I did it). See post above for example reading.

hmm... not sure about that one, Corrado is the 9a engine where as the golf has ABF usually. Do you know your ecu part number? or whether you need the Bosch or Siemans version?

I just bought one before I build my motor up for a laugh!! I have to put down a stock figure in a couple of weeks so will do a back-to-back with this on the same day purely out of interest [:d]

well i bought one for my car, after buying the wrong one! doh!

anyway after a few days of driving about, car definitely feels like it has more torque in 2nd gear and in general it feels alot smoother.

for 40 i can't complain, good value for money and quite a good cheap mod without having to spend 's to get more BHP!

    try it and see :)

Well finally got around to installing my Blitzchip.. original plan was to do a before and after run on a rolling road or something, but never got around to it.

Initial thoughts, definate difference in response and torque, I can only be qualatative and not quantative, but its smoother through-out the the rev range, and the torque band starts lower down, approx 1.5k onwards compared to 2.5k before the blitzchip.

Installation was very straight forward, just a reminder to disable alarm somehow upon reconnecting battery negative otherwise you'll be temporarily deaf like me.

For 40 its kinda like when you first install your k&n panel filter, perfermance increase is small but pyschologically is more. To be honest, I don't think this chip is far off custom remaps avaliable from the likes of REVO/AMD/CC but for 10th of the cost I won't complain.

Also judging by Tony20VTurbo rolling road figures 177bhp isn't bad!! Not sure if mine feels that much, but it can keep up with my mates MK4 1.8T 150bhp, just torque is less in low revs.

All sounds very good. Going to move this over to the FAQ's, as Garfay's guide is excellent. :)
