well finally got around to changing my wishbone bushes this weekend:clap:
Got started around 10, got the car up on the lift. I was dreading taking the rear mount bolt out as I've heard horror stories on here about them but they came out easily enough. I got the left one off first and to old bushes were toast[xx(]
so over the hydraulic press we went on out came the rear bushing rubber:thumbup: next was to cut out the metal part of it
    [IMG]
Then onto the front mount. Daved's tool he sent over worked a treat, I just used some added power to get it out:lol:
the new one's went in very easy with Daved's tool for the front and a hydraulic press for the rear.
Then got the left side back in and fought with the ARB link for about 30 minutes before using a pry bar and the right amount of force it went pretty easy. Total time for the left side about 2 hours.
Started the right side, snaped the ARB link(good thing I havd new ones) Got both front and rear bolts out, went to take the wishbone out...nothing, wouldn't budge[xx(] Had another look and the stupid locator sleeve was stuck in there[:x] 30 minutes later the wishbone was out[8(] this side went alot quicker getting old bushes out and new one in and back on car in about 45minutes:thumbup: including the new ARB drop link.

    Grand show dude!

Those rear bushes are really knackered![xx(]

Surprised your car has passed recent MoTs?[:s] The bushes must have been in a bad state for some years?:o

Yeah I don't know how it passed last year, didn't even get an adviory last year on them. It does drive better now, well at least it felt like it did the short distance I drove it yesterday. One more thing to sort out by thursday for it's MOT. 1 Exhaust hanger then it should pass...but with my luck probably wont[:^(]

Good work - sounds like you're keeping on top of things. Good luck with the MOT!

Handy having a proper workshop to fall back on as well.

Cheers Mike, the shop is just nice to have to use, don't know how long it would have taken me if I didn't have it availible.

MOT on Thursday a noon. Just one more thing to get sorted first and having that done on Thursday morning

Fail:( for 1 tail light, excessive play in the left rear wheel bearing. :(
Advisory's are slight movement in both front top mount(I forgot to check them after they seated), an oil leak and drivers wing corroded
    [IMG]
    only slightly;)
Had them tighten the rear bearing and sort the light, and now she legal to drive again[:D] and ready for Curby

Also I changed my center console back to the GTI on that I modded slightly
    [IMG]
Oh, I also installed the rubber boot I from 1990:thumbup:

Pretty sure the following were fitted to all RHD GTIs?

    1985 Options (...)

    (8) - 191 711 115 C boot for gearshift (leatherette)

    (10) - 161 711 141 D gearshift knob (leather) 08/84-07/851BX black

Every UK Mk2 GTI catalogue I have ever owned, most sold on ebay now, showed the letherette kit and a sunroof!

Rubber only fitted to the proper EV 'Basic' perhaps?[:s]

    1983 Standard GTI and Driver:

    11 - 113 711 141 D gearshift knob M12X1,5 X

The EV came just like this, with rubber boot, but with the nasty knob showing 1-5 + R. This is a spare which I had from one of our Mk1 drivers.

There is another one, off another of our Mk1 Drivers, on the Audi. It is so worn the top dimples have almost disapeared!

Must swap it over to the EV!;)

You need to do this as well.

When I first got this car, it had a rubber boot but I swapped it for a sh*13 letherette one[xx(] I'm very glad I put it right:thumbup:

As for swaping it to complete EV status it probably wont happen as I like to listen to music way to much to take out my stereo:p:lol:

p.s. does your console have a shollow cubby above the ashtray?

Is that the shallow cubby you mean above the ashtray in photo #1?[:s]

Do you want me to measure it's depth?[:D]
