Ok, before a mod appears at my door with a sawn-off, I didn't know what section to put this in - it could be anything. On the way home from the auction last night, the new 8v felt a bit slow and hesitant. Needs a tune-up, I thought. On the way through town today it started losing power, and "kangarooing". Thought the petrol guage might be playing up, so I limped it to Texaco and filled it up. No joy. It'll fire up for a second, rev to about 2000rpm and then die. No power to drive it with at all. Found a broken/frayed wire to the hall sender plug , so fixed that. Tried a different ECU and ignition module - still no joy. Changed plugs and leads and rotor arm and dizzy cap - no difference! So I set it on fire and left it to burn. Not really..... Any clever ideas as to what it might be? The hall sender itself? (Which I presume means a whole new dizzy?) Fuel pump(s) or filter maybe? I don't mind spending a few quid if I can be sure it'll sort the problem, as I payed only 600 for it and already got offered a grand - it's a really, really nice car. Any ideas or experience would be very much appreciated..... especially from people in the trade (calling 800gs...... I have parts from about 10 gti's sitting around, so plenty to try and substitute bits.... Otherwise I will sever my head, and send pieces of it to each of you individually. I need the car for monday to do a ram-raid in Curry's too..... Edited by: TheSecondComing
Those were my thoughtds exactly. Any other help forthcoming, apart from Colombian boy? To me it feels electrical in nature.
Oh, it also backfired a couple of times. Which to me might mean either an ignition fault, or someone was shooting at me. Equally likely.
ISV. I had exactly the same problems, stalling, rev's rising to 2000rpm.. Cost me 160 to replace. Go and steal one and try it out.
If a mod is about, could this maybe be moved to the engine section? Pretty please? Or I'll burn your house down.
I had loads of problems caused by an ISV earlier this year on a MKII 8v, had to be towed loads Worth a try??
I tried a known good ISV, i think it is worse than that....... cheers for the help tho, romany girl....
had similar prb when we got ailsa's turned out to be a crap alternator, battery ran out of juice and it just died. might be an idea to try another battery if u have one, if same happens i'd guess alt needs replacing.
Hello my risen from the dead friend. I assume it's an 8V digifant. Have you checked the throttle switch in case it thinks it's on idle? Dirty swipe contact inside the airflow flap? Failed knock sensor? I assume it's a PB on 38pin digifant if not what and I'll have another think.
