What would be a better engine to use with alternative fuels such as WMO. My 7.3 idi will burn anything trans fluid, wmo, gear oil, hydraulic oil any type of oil it dont care whats in it. So i was hoping one of the vw diesels would work well with it too even if its just a 50/50 as it gets such great mileage. I would be looking for a little power out of it as well somewhere around 130whp. Will the alh with a mechanical pump and its DI work better or does the idi engines tend to be less picky

Pumps don’t last well on waste engine oil, while they run on it, the small metal particles and ash will clog the fuel filter as well and throws the pump case pressure valve and it won’t start anymore! They are also getting gummed up from varnish and it will smoke if too much oil in the mixture…

I guess it greatly depends on how well its filtered as im at 28000 miles in my 7.3 and it has had no issues whatsoever. Most people just filter it through some normal filters but thats nowhere near enough. I have a rather extensive process for cleaning it and its never given me an issue

I don’t blame you for trying, I used to do that and it’s getting expensive to repair the pump when the advance collar/piston seize in the pump housing…probably if you have filtered the oil well and let it decant it the. You might be alright !

Yea the oil is filtered VERY well which is probably why iv had no problems. Im actually thinking about going even further and try to distill the oil which would remove nearly all contaminetes

That would be one way of doing it properly although getting pumps fixed is rather easy and cheap at most diesel specialists…
Whichever way you go I would just thin it
Enough with diesel and mix thorough, usually contaminants drop to the bottom
