I have an '04 2.0 GT TDI Golf. Yesterday the alternator decided to go up in smoke. When the dust settled the self adjusting pulley had chewed up the bearings and that was all she wrote. I managed to get the car home, after removing the belt. My questions are...

    1. Where can I get a replacement that doesn't cost a small fortune, I was quoted 71.54 from the local dealer which I know is well over the top.

    2. How easy is it to change the pulley? I bet you have to use special tools which also cost a lot.

Any help would be most greatfully appreciated.
