Although I agree with the blocks being stripped down after each race, what you got to remember these engines are now over 13 years old, and now in the hands of the public who continue to race these engines and cars.

I'm pretty sure original blocks and heads are still being used, apparently Audi Sport offer no help to privateers still racing these motor's, hence when you buy a BTCC car you buy all the spares that go with it.

A close up of the block, top right. I think the lug may just have been cut off?

my engine man tells me that he looks after an ex-DTCC engine and that the head is machined at an angle - 2.5mm more off the exhaust side - this necessitates all the head bolt holes / water passages etc etc etc to all be remade and costs a bomb. Allows the use of 30mm exhaust valves.

It may have been done on the audi engine to up the compression without skimming into the inlet valve seats?????

Similar - quite a lot of machining of stubs off on the Audi, but easy to see how the two relate.

The lug on the RHS is I-section on the Audi head, whereas it's a square blank on your 6A.

I think the part around the exhaust ports is different - machined on the Audi - but it various from KR to ABF anyway.

yea, just spotted the ''I'' section now Chris, doesn't look to be machined either as the edges dont look too sharp, athough it is the same on the left hand end, but machined away, hmmm, the mystery continues. i must dig out the pics of the abf head too.

Yep, ABF, KR, 9A - all needed for this, + ACE?

I've got a 9A and ABF down the garage.

Really interesting bespoke modification - the most obvious one so far on this thread.

Needed for acute temps from high compression? Enables higher comps on lower RON fuels?
