usually, 99% wires and connectors are faulty at 1.8t. Same problem for me, time to time the engine went to idle and no pedal response until restart. I have changed the pedal with a new one and ... nothing... There are 6 wires going from pedal directly to ecu through the blue connector

Right. I was under it today and the rear o2 sensor was covered in tape and joined with block connectors. Also it's a cheapo universal one so ordered a new one. The front is the original vw one and doesn't appear to be damaged at all.
    Hopefully this is the culprit

right o2 sensor changed and still the same, found a ecu with a defeated immobilser so im waiting for that to be delievered.

this car is really annoying me now

todays scan shows the following codes
    Address 01 -------------------------------------------------------

    2 Faults Found:
    18039 - Unknown Error Code
    P1631 - 35-00 - Unknown Error Elaboration
    18042 - Unknown Error Code
    P1634 - 35-00 - Unknown Error Elaboration
    Readiness: 0110 1101

    2 Faults Found:
    01135 - Unknown Error Code
    36-10 - Unknown Error Elaboration - Intermittent
    01134 - Unknown Error Code
    49-10 - Unknown Error Elaboration - Intermittent

first two are doing my head in now but the second two im assusming is because of flat battery

if a new ecu doesnt help im stuffed and dont know what to do with it.

have you cleared the codes to see what comes back? if so sounds like the wiring is at fault or you keep getting defective pedals

Yeh cleared codes and 18039 and 18042 keep coming back. I completely rewired the blue plug and checked continuity from the pedal top the other side of the plug. Throttle body aligns correctly. Rear o2 Sensor changed. The rear o2 sensor was bodged and was a complete mess which makes me think that it could have possibly damaged the ecu. I did get a another code yesterday (can't remember the number) bit on ross-tech wiki the explanation was communication to ecu

I just had the same issue. (AUQ engine 2003)
    Accellerator pedal just stopped working.
    Was not the pedal.
No wiring faults on the O2 sensors and no water in the plugs.
For some unknown reason the negative of the sensors in the pedal develop an issue, not in the pedal, somewhere else.
Pin 3 and 5 are the negatives for the two sensors in the pedal.
Give each pin (pin 3 and 5) a negative from the body and the problem should be corrected.
The pins are numbered on the connecter, very small, might need a magnifying glass.
Hope this helps someone out there.

Reading the faults it did sound like a signal ground fault (both tracks high), they probably split one ground into two for the pedal position sensors.

Could even be a fault inside the PCM if it supplies a dedicated ground for the throttle pedals.
