Basic 16v head porting

    I'd read on youre website that there is a big valve 16v head is coming. How much mm valves are we thinking of 34inlets?

    There is indeed... Poss something like that..33 or 34...though I may try a 32.5 on the std seat to keep the end cost down..time will tell.

    in fitting bigger valves, will even more work have to be done to valve throat area to achieve a better gain?
    how much throat work can actually be done? this were cutaway pics come in?

    Took my head to a place in Bristol today, took the valves with me, said what id like done and i was given the reply "OK, leave it with us i'll cut the seats, grind the valves, blend the sharp edges, re-seat all the valves and pressure test it for you."

    Marvelous.

    Yes it will indeed. It wont be a massive amount, particularly with just 0.5 bigger valves. .Then obviously a bit more again with 1mm bigger.

    There's still scope for more...the throats on the high flow 16v's I do are a decent size already.

    Are you going to make the valves yourself? cause i never seen bigger 16v vw valves for sale.

    Will do!

    Ive got a tree shaped burr infront of my and am waiting for a ball end (i said ball) one in the post. A friend has a dye grinder i can use so all i need to know now is where to cut out what.

    so working the throat/bowl just means making the area behind the valve that little bit bigger? or bigger and shaped to give more flow?

    No not my own. Supertech in America do them..tho I'll prob try another source in the UK first.

    Ah good. A tree wont be much use, you'll need an oval and a straight with a rounded end..but the ball will be handy...depends what work you want to do.

    Get it back first and we can take a look from there.

    Right ok.

    Any chance of afew links to places that do the burrs you've mentioned?

    Try J&L and I think SGS.

    Roebuck do them as well...that's what some of mine are.

    This is the one ive got

    According to the roebuck site its an oval, but the people in the tool shop said its a tree.

    Can you clarify?

    my local mac tools man had a die grinder and 4 burr set on offer recently, 94 dont know how that compare to others as i tend to stick with him for my tools.

    Thats pretty good pricing!

    That burr in the pic cost me 15 on its own, and the dye grinder i was looking at was 100.

    Beware of cheap tools though, they will be cack.

    thats my thinking. mac burrs are lifetime garantee which is massive bonus as i do alot of de liping steel brake drums. no problems replaced as soon as they wear. great service, probs cus of how much ive spent!

    Good point that. We use Roebuck stuff in work (Corus, or Tata) and its awsome stuff!

    Have you ever seen a tree that shape? !

    That's not the proper oval but its ok..

    I'll dig out the part numbers I have.
