May '06...Ressurecting this thread as this is the new route I'm taking with the car.

I know this has been asked about a lot before

What's the ideal donor car for a VR swap into a mk2 other than a Corrado?

I see Vento VR6s can be picked up cheap...
    ;)

I could do a search I suppose

Gary I picked up L reg Passat estate the other week for 200 and a Corrado sub frame c/w wishbone, driveshafts and hubs for 100. The VR head needs a rebuild, i would say that this would be a good cheap donor car for sure.

I can't knock the 16v, it's had over 3 years of hard use, but it's using oil now and for what it would cost to get a nice block built up I could fit the VR, and the car will still be as quick, and have torque :p

Obviously my constant gearbox failures are a factor as well, the 02A/02J boxes are a lot more durable than the old rod change, ok the feel of the shifter isn't as nice as the rod change with quickshift, but Claire's R32 is bearable, so with a mk4 shifter mech I'm sure it will be ok.

We'll see - it's ChrisPs fault for letting me drive his at Snetterton on Tuesday!

    That's just it, it won't ;)

It's all bollox these myths that mk2 VRs don't handle, I did a 15-20min session on the track at Snetterton in Chris's car, and it drove really well, doubt I would've been faster in my car.. :pOnly problem was I couldn't get it into 5th as I had to have the seat forward to reach the pedals (Chris is about 12ft tall) and the stick was hitting on the seat (Koenigs)

Unless that was your idea of sarcasm Andy ?

i must agree after running mine in, i have now given the car
some stick on the back lanes of cheshire and the handling is
no different to when the 8v was in it, i would even say that it
is a little better now with less roll.

and fuel isnt that bad if driven normal, (as if ;))
have been getting an average return of around 30mpg travelling
to and from manchester in rush hour, it all depends on how
much lead is in your right boot!!!!!

When/if I do this swap, I'll buy a complete running car, instead of pi55ing about with bits and pieces :)

Agreed Gary. It was quite sad me destroying that Passat though, remember the pics? It was pretty mint.
