Nice work Gary. Not been on for a while and I've just read through this and the other thread a-la 16v demise.

Sorry to hear about the other engine, but this one sounds "literally" like a nicer option.

I look forward to seeing some completed car photos.

Surely a corrado is the best donor, you can use everything - subframes front and rear, radiotors, pedal box, linkages, wiring etc. Wouldnt need to go buy much if anything......?

Ageed but a damaged corrado is still big bucks.

The only differance is the subframe, more or less everything else is the same as the passat + the passat has a bigger rad and some have easier fans to wire up, a bit like the mk2 16v without that big relay box.

    You'd have a job buying a Corrado VR6 even salvage.... for 500.

I know, I've been looking around for a little while. VR6s on the road tend to start around 1000, complete cars but accident damaged or sold as spares are around 500-800 and engines & gearboxes 200-300. How come you managed to find a roadworthy Passat VR6 for 500???

I agree, but the "best car" not factoring the money side of things, to use would definatly be a Corrado IMHO.

Everything I can think of in the Corrado you can put in/use on a MK2 swap There would be very little "extras" your'd have to buy (assuming all those bits on teh car are still in good working order). From Fans, Rad, rad Pipes (top hose = big 's for a VW one) Sub frames, 2.9 engine + gearbox (190bhp to start with oh, and Que Corrado gearbox is better debate  ) , Pedal box, Hydrulic clutch parts and if your so inclinded the VR6 airbox on the carrodo mounts nicely and looks stock under the bonnet of a MK2.

Uisng all Corrado parts would be the closest you could get to an "idiot proof" VR6 transplant imho.

We had the old heap running with the VR in last weekend, was a bit loud with just the 6 branch manifold tho..... revs like f*ck with that alloy flywheel!

Starter off the Passat is fecked and won't keep engaged, we had to fit a starter bush in the bell housing as there wasn't one in there.... and the Corrado VR6 rad I got from eBay is leaking, so not happy.

I've moved this week and need to find a job... so progress might be even slower for a while.

    Click to play.

Smoke is the new heat wrap, noise is the lack of any exhaust other than the manifold and a new set of tappets which quietened down after being run for 15-20 mins. [:D]
