Sweet, almost there now! Inlet mani looks good in black, is it aftermarket or standard one refinished?
OBDII manifold shotblasted/powder coated satin black Although looking at it I think they did both the blasting and painting at the same time Was 15 from a local place,so can't complain really.
Certainly looks in the pics! Can't wait to get the rest of my parts to finish up now. As for VR6 donor debate - I went for a Passat, as it's cheap as you like, far less likely to have had the t:ts ragged off it (it's a big engined grandad wagon/caravan puller afterall) and the only thing you'll need ultimately is a subframe from a raddo/golf - 30-50 from breakers, and there's good numbers of VR's being broken for parts....unless you need coolant hoses like me, then you have to scour the earth it seems!
That video clip reminds me of when we did my mates VR conversion, and ran it with just the down pipe awesome noise and we set of most of the car alarms in the vacinity.
Hi all, My first post on Club Gti, as I stumbled across this thread whilst Googling my own name.. sad I know... It's been a while since I was a member as I've migrated over to those weird 6 cylinder beetles... Nice conversion you are building here, when I did mine back in '95 these engines were so expensive... Something like 3k for a 2.9 with box / loom and subframe. Whoever said that VR6 MK2 don't handle was right As a 16v mine was one of the most balanced cars I have owned, put the VR6 in and whoops, it all went wrong! My times around Curborough were only slightly quicker with the VR6 than with the stock 16v engine. What I gained on the straights I lost on the twisty bits. Good luck Gary (ex owner of F199 TLU stealth 2.9 VR6 conversion!)
maybe back when you had yours converted the knowledge wasnt there regarding altering the chassis to get the handling back to what it used to be............ Back in the day there used to be a Jetta VR6 on the ClubGTI track circuit tour, and I dont think that would have lasted as long as it did if it didnt handle
Hi, what are the current tricks? I did get it OK eventually, with an additional 28mm rear bar, playing with the ride height a little, changing front springs and dampers, but it never overcame the fundamental problem of having a heavier engine pushed further in front of the axle. It's just loathed to turn in, hence the big rear bar to encourage it, but it all felt a little forced rather than the natural balance of the 16v. Just my opinon and probably out of date
Cool to hear from someone who did this 'back in the day' I did a track day at Donington in mine a few weeks ago, and was very pleased how it went, still work to do on the car, but these things are never finished.
Some pics and info from other thread. Some progress pics. Been to Stealth for a power test, very pleased with results 209bhp at 6150 and 188 torques @ 5243! Power still climbing at limiter! 171bhp at the wheels Plot overlaid with the two week wonder 2035cc 16v on Newman 272s.... http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i270/GVK34/vr6vs16vpower.jpg Comical torque difference..... http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i270/GVK34/vr6vs16vtorque.jpg Vid of first run, note -wheel spin , first time Vince has had to spray glue on the rollers for my car..lol! Tub's put up a couple of vids so far filmed early in the afternoon at Donny... Cheers dude! Note : - 02A cable change boxes can't be rushed as much as the old 020 boxes, hence a crunch on the downchange to 3rd on the first vid... Turn up the sound for some narrow angle V6 aural relief! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v69EURLb2vk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwAPUi9PgnA
See the chuggers still an attention whore then How's the repairs going after the hedge incedent then mate?
Just needs the 2 parts of the lower spoiler fitting when they arrive from GSF and a new number plate - could do with a bumper really but it's a track car at the end of the day.
Aye, and on the track a bumper that quick releases () instead of breaking other things is a good thing imo
