not looking at doing it but whats the best engine to drop into a mk1 or 2 golf to give a really high power to weight ratio?

cant be anything crazy like a w12

say it has to cost under 3000 for the lump
would it be an audi 20v, vr6 with turbo. 1.8t?
    maybe a volvo t5?
    other makes of engine?
    bike engines?

    any ideas?

mk2 is heavy for a bike engine, but at 70kgs-100kgs the engines are very light

a LS6 corvette engine is small, light and makes 300odd bhp, but i bet all in a turbo'd 20v will win

what's Bill's 450+/tonne not much that will stay with that

    Fiat/Lancia Twin Cam.

Go for a 16v Turbo from a Lancia Thema. You can buy a whole running car for less than 150.

They are the same unit as the Delta HF Integrale 16v (different exhaust valves but that's about it) and they are good for 300+ bhp with very minor tuning work.

How much would an RS6 motor cost....its effectively two 1.8T motors on a common crank so must be lighter than two 1.8T motors.

    Probably good for 750bhp.

    4x4 probably required though!!!

    vr6 power

Try looking on the net !

Schimmel performance have had 516whp on a stock engine and over 700whp with out to many mods !

I have a vr6 turbo that i built on my drive no roof no help it does 407bhp and 407ftlb torque with more boost to go !

    Its that easy !

So you are just over half way there...

That is like saying 300bhp is easy from a normilly aspirated 16v motor because you have got 160bhp.

Over 200bhp per litre is never easy.

Yes but i built mine to drive every day not for the biggest bhp figure i could get !
    Theres a big difference !
Plus mine could do over 500bhp easy with no more mods just more boost but why its front wheel drive !
