Way back when I was a 16 year old, on a visit to the dentist, my mum offered for me to choose a magazine, this was the one.
Street machine, appealed as there was a ford pop in a barn in the village where I lived.
Started me on a slippery slope to modified cars,
Found a copy on Ebay, bid, won, received. Really odd how 32 years later I can remember the articles as if I'd only read it last week.
Only VWs seem to be old beetles, but I suppose mk2s were still new then.

it used to do some wild body kits - back then i wanted an opel manta

A whole £1.35, it was around 1979 on.
I have some c&cc from the 60s, 70s and 80s, was a great mag. Custom car, American rodder, vw motoring, mini world, mini mag and even early max power graced the doormat for a while.
The only one close to car and car conversion was practical performance car, but not sure if that is around now even.
I know recycling is good, but I've seen the same lotus cortina/sunbeam/carlton article 3 times in one mag.
Somewhere I've got autocar from very early 50s, I'll have to rummage.
Helped my old neighbour build a 400 style manta rally car, my uncle built a mk2 cavalier sports (manta but vxl) with a mk3 Sri engine and 5 speed, and I bought a manta for £30, sold it in the same day as big profit even if had no brakes!

You poor lad, you wont even know about marathon bars, opal fruits or that curly wurlys had a joke under the flap on the wrapper.
The Beano used to be 8p, and we had the Raleigh chopper.

My dad had a Raleigh Chopper with the shifter in the middle. I wasn’t big enough to ride it. I had to sit on the back.

    Can’t comment on the rest!

I had a Raleigh Chopper - damn gears in the middle nearly castrated me when I was 13/14

I sat on the little rack on the back of a Chopper when i was about 8-9yrs old, mate peddling, I got my left foot caught in the back wheel and broke my ankle.

Still gives way now and then.

I skidded on mine, on gravel, came off and hit a stone wall, that's why my beard is slightly off due to scar.
Also put a rip in my beige Lord Anthony body warmer, not a happy ten year old.

If you didn't have a serious "off" in a Raleigh Chopper and or have battle scars because of one then frankly you didn't have a proper 'Non - OHS' childhood - full stop.

All the very best for the season and the New Year one and all.
