dont let it put you off, i checked mine the other day and they are still mint, 'socks' are the way forward in protection... and grease!!
stiffer damping will stop the rear wheels rubbin aswell...go for the coilovers its money well spent.

I just went to adjust my Konis after a year of not touching them, they moved like they were new, just had to give a quick wipe off with the old copper grease and that was it [:D]

I had my Konis off to do the top mounts recently. Was dreading what I might find, but they were like new, under the grease. Wasn`t adjusting them, but tried the collars just to see if they were free, and it was as if they`d been fitted the day before, not two years ago...;) [8D]

Look at my pics on page 2...;)

That was the condition after two years, using copper grease.

They looked extremely dirty, since I used to drive down a dirt track to work everyday, but the grease had protected them perfectly.

Don`t bother with clingfilm. It won`t last two minutes.

Copper grease is fine on it`s own.

what about motorcross bike inner tubes? once they`re waxed/greased up they`d keep all the crap out. only downside would be a nightmare to fit.
plus they would`nt be water traps they`d have to let some in first.

You could try using that "paint on latex" you can buy for errr[:[] fun things!
It should peel off easily enough when you're done.
