my car: 1.8 16v - pre CE2 wiring 1.8T AGU engine from mk4 golf O2A mk3/passat 16v gearbox mk3 vr6 clutch mk2 16v driveshafts & fuel pumps (already on car) merc sprinter intercooler mk2 1.3 speedo & clutch cable 1992 T4 throttle cable?? Corrado VR6 coolant rad with top hose on n/s audi TT downpipe original but uprated mounts my existing crossmember theoretically, are my existing engine mounts ok to use? i mean do i have to use mounts from a different model? obviously theres more, but im looking at getting the parts roughly together before i take my car off the road. Hyrdaulic pedal box. I've just started collecting myself, so far I have got all of the following: a mk3 16v box Thats it!!!!!
Don't need the down pipe get a custom one made! Merc cooler is ok you will have to move the battary and modify the chassie leg to make it fit nicely. 1990, dont need the Hyrdaulic pedal box if your using cable clutch
thats what i thought too. is everything else correct though? i've been doing my research but different people are using a few different combinations of parts. I want to actually fit the engine and plumb it in myself but get Jody at Midland VW to sort the wiring. One other thing, if i remove the cat from the exhaust and have a complete custom stainless job fitted, what do i do about emmissions come MOT time? Edited by: Davs
hey funkyfin, i didnt like the sound of that! I need to go a speak to him so we can decide the best route to take with the wiring, either using the original loom, ecu and ignition or a standalone ecu with custom wiring. As for the 16v box on 20v, ive been told that the ratios are quite similar but the main reason for using the 02A box is so you don't have to have a custom mount made, the 02A fits like its meant to be there, and you don't have to mess about with fitting a hydraulic clutch mechanism. woo hoo! You can only keep the existing cable clutch pedal box if you use the seat part that fits onto the gearbox, this replaces the slave cylinder and uses a cable instead. Problem is that this part is not available seperately, so you need to remove one from a box - not so easy to find.
that feature in this months PVW isn't a direct fit for my fusebox is it? Would it be difficult to modify it? I'm seriosuly considering getting that loom though, cos they supply the ecu and a chip to give around 215bhp. but 900+vat!! scary considering the engine im getting is half that price.
just got off the phone to Jody, he feels that he would rather do the full conversion himself rather than just the wiring, but he would supply the amex ecu and wiring kit that they use for their conversions which is around 700.
But you'll have to spend 500quid to map that plus cash for midland to do the swap, the QPE kit AT 900 + VAT SEEMS MORE BUT IS AN EASY diy JOB, premapped and a full loom thats tailored to the mk2's body.
I've not seen anything about this QPE thing, but surely you;d be better with a proper standalove ecu, such as the DTA??
The QPE conversion kit uses a MBE ecu which is mappable, just needs an MBE dealer to sort it out much like the DTA standalone management. Just read that article again, it says that minor mods to the power plug are needed to fit the kit to non digifant engined cars. Just gotta wait for my student loan to come through and that loom is mine!! Edited by: Davs
i was looking to supply the MBE systems through on Saunders from QPEng but they beat me to it the system is an excellent standalone unit, but it's not something you can map yourself at home - well you can if you spend 500 on the CAN interface if you want to tinkle with it yourself then DTA, Emerald etc are the ones to go for. If you want to take it somewhere to get it mapped and don't want the capability to do it yourself, then the MBE is a very good choice tt
