In all honesty, my plan is to have the engine stock bar the ecu, chip, exhaust and air filter.

How can i complain of 200bhp in a daily driver at 20years old and at uni? Didn't think so!!!

You guys have been loads of help, but don't go running off yet, i'll need you more when i start the conversion!!

I think the flywheel to use is a mk3 16v one.

Does that mean you have to fit the 16v clutch too?

I'm not sure on that one. I don't know if you use the 1.8t dual mass flywheel or a MK3 item?

Do you know the answer to this one Mr. Motorhead?

Only fit the twin mass if you dont have any other option, they go t1ts up on a regular basis and cost a fortune. (damping goes and it ends up ripping the centre out of the clutch plate) I would have thought you could use one of quite a number of clutch and flywheel combinations. As long as the splines on the spigot shaft are the same and the clutch is designed for an engine with some go in it then it should be ok. I cant think of a reason why not to use the VR clutch/flywheel but I havent got an old one to try on the spigot shaft to double check.
Ive only used the t/m flywheel because it was new as was the clutch, Ill be looking to change them as and when the clutch goes t1ts up.

I've just done a bit of reading on VWVortex about the flywheels, and the yanks do indeed fit VR6 clutch setups.

Also just spotted the other topic started by 1990. Most people are saying used the clutch setup for the gearbox you intend to use.

I was told by 800g's to use a cable change flywheel, and a VR6 clutch :)

Thats why i said in the other thread to use a flywheel that takes 228mm clutch (ie g60, many passats etc) as standard, cos you can fit the vr6 clutch.

Is a 9a flywheel a cable change on? I'm on the verge of buying one.

Ok but the 16v clutch isnt as robust as the VR unless your running std power from the 1.8t or your going to use some sort of comp clutch. One thing to remember is that some comp clutches are like an on-off switch and make general/town driving an absolute nightmare.
