Lots of people have compressed air impact wrenches... but for use on the move - at trackdays, for example, and in my non-powered lockup garage, I've been thinking of getting a cordless one (prices seem to start at about 200 for pro brands, or a bit less for cheaper ones, depending on the voltage spec.)

Has anyone used them? What brand / voltage / model would you recommend? How long have you had it, and is it lasting well?

Obviously the 12v ones are smaller as well as cheaper, so that might have some advantages.

I'd expect it to be able to do things like wheel-nuts, suspension bolts, etc, and to last for a day of sporadic use before it needs a recharge.

    Any views or experiences?

You've just posted more or less what I was going to ask today.

Also considering one of these however me being a jip I was looking at the cheap 24v ebay ones made by unheard of companys. All I want it for is checking various bolts and nuts at trackdays.

There's been a few threads on this on the britishrally forum. Snap-on always seems to win.

Afaic, apart from Snapon, CP is the market leader in airtools.

why not get a small portable compressor if you already have all the air tools you might need?

I've used one of these for years, still going strong and an excellent bit of kit to boot - highly recommended

If you'd seen the state of my garage you'd know the answer to that one... lack of space, and not wanting to take a compressor to track days...

Do you need the 2nd battery with it, or is one enough?

I got mine with a second battery, but that got damaged when some bell decided to run over it. One is fine, be it at home or track use (having said that, two batteries are more useful if you have the option)

I bought an 18v 1/2" Snap-on one a few years ago, excellent bit of kit and well worth the money, comes in really handy for pulling engines out etc.

I've used the Sealey ones and the Snap-on. The Sealeys are actually pretty good and will usually undo Hub nuts which are probs the tightest thing you'll come up against on a road car (sometimes it struggled on bottom pulley bolts). However i've gone through 3 of them in 3 years (but there again it probs wasn't meant for use virtually everyday..)
The Snap-on 24v ones are the big daddy and very, very good-i've used them to undo the big centre lock wheels on Radicals and it did it with ease. I had the feeling nothing would stop it..
