CTD on a B3 Audi 1.8. Too short?

    The original AKM gearbox had some issues, the 5th gear and diff making noises at higher speeds. In the absence of another AKM spare, I paired the CTD (from a B5, I was told) with the 1.8. I'm worried the gearbox ratio might be too close and it might affect the engine having to rev pretty high. I'm mostly interested about 90-120km/h rpm stats.
    On the jack I clocked it at 95-100km/h at around 3k rpm, which is around 20km/h less than the AKM.
    Have in mind it's a 30yo engine, and even though it's refurbished I'm afraid holding it close to redline might do damage.
