Absolutely no problem. I only accept NLA parts though, and make sure you use a good shipping company, parts have gone missing of late....

Thanks Bob! It is still on going. I do wonder at times if it will ever be finished....

So I've started with the Dry Acid Salt solution. Gave all of the brackets, nuts, bolts, clamps a good soak.
Most of the stuff comes out pretty clean and only needs a quick going over with the wire wheel.

Acid dipped items on the left, wire wheeled on the right.

It is slow going though. I've another 20 or so bolts to wire wheel and then I'll give them another soak in the acid. I'll get the plating stuff setup then and do a test on some bolts.

Was talking to the Powder Coaters yesterday, so should have the parts back Mon/Tues. New bushes have started being delivered too. I have a busy few evenings ahead of me.

Great stuff I’ve found new hardware one of the biggest costs, if you can refurb it all at home you’re onto a winner

Personally I found the old electrolysis technique with a battery charger and soda crystals works wondered, but good results

So continuing with the Zinc plating..... I aborted mission

I got all of the nuts and bolts wire wheeled, acid dipped, alkaline dipped etc and everything came out lovely and clean.
I then cleaned up the place and setup my zinc plating station.
    IMG_20210327_205325.jpg

And got started on some plating
    IMG_20210327_205328.jpg

I wasn't expecting the plating to be as slow as it was. To get a good plate, I could only put 2-3 pieces in the bath at any one time. Plating takes at least 20mins, so with the amount of parts that I wanted to plate, I would have been at this for about 2 weeks.

So I packed the equipment all up and sent all the parts to get zinc plated by Eagle plating up in Northern Ireland. Just dropped off by the postman this morning. So now I can start reassembling everything on the car.
    IMG_20210415_121501.jpg

The kit is handy to have and I will use it again for smaller batches. It just didn't make sense to burn hours on plating the amount of parts I had.

Finally picked up the powder coated stuff last week. Every turned out sexy as fook.

And last night I wire wheeled the front hubs and gave them a lick of paint. I've used POR-15 high temp paint, so they need a second coat this evening and then cured in the oven at 150*C for 15 mins and they will be rock solid. The POR15 stuff always amazes me, a small tin has great coverage.

The plan tomorrow evening and the weekend is to get the subframe back and get the car back on it wheels. I can then wheel it out of the garage and make some room for me to work on the engine.

Well this was quite the puzzle to put back together. You'd really want three hands to hold springs in place whilst putting another part on. Chuffed with it though.

While it's off, could be a good time to consider figuring out a TPS. i put a Ford one on the bottom, partly to hide it.

The wife's has just called me into the kitchen "What is that smell???!!!"
Probably should have waited until she was out of the house before putting the front hubs in the oven

Just read through the thread. Awesome work!
Looking to do a similar level of restoration on mine with a few mods, with the G60 calipers did you have to run spacers to fit them under the RAs? It's an upgrade id be looking to do but want to retain an OEM look with the wheels really.
    Look forward to more updates

You need spacers if running g60 calipers and carriers it has been reported here. If you use 16v calipers on g60 carriers, with the thinner 16v pads, you don't need spacers. I have that exact set up on my own mk2, ie RAs over 280 discs, g60 carriers, 16v calipers.

also there are 2 versions of the RA with different offsets, IIRC the harder to find ones bit lower offset and give more room?

Good idea. I'm going to try and source a TPS from the US or I think a Corrado TB has one fitted too. From what I can see in photos, the TPS bolts onto the existing spindle so that would make it nice an neat. I am however, going to pull new wire from ECU to TB and other sensors (CPS etc.) before I wrap the loom back up.

As Tristan said, I have that exact same setup RAs over 280 discs, g60 carriers, 16v calipers

I didn't get as much time at this as I thought I would, and even the time I did get, a good bit of it was spent fixing my bush sliding tool and fighting with said bushes....

So I started with inserting all of the rubber grommets etc. into the bulk head. This mofo was is an absolute ball ache to re fit.
    IMG_20210418_122315.jpg

Then I moved on to re tapping all of the threads on the powder coated items.
    IMG_20210418_114138.jpg

And then started to assemble the subframe. New power flex ARB bushes fitted, and I now have a Powerflex bush for the steering rack to be fitted.
    IMG_20210418_115329.jpg

    IMG_20210418_122311.jpg

New Lemforder bushes fitted to the rear of the Control Arms, and new TRW fitted to front and then bolted on to the subframe.
    IMG_20210418_161505.jpg

    Some pics of shiny stuff
    IMG_20210419_212238.jpg

    IMG_20210419_212246.jpg

Calipers are waiting to be wire wheeled and re painted as I did a rubbish job the first time around and the paint has flaked off in places. I've also to source new brake dust shields too.

And how it sits at the moment:
    IMG_20210419_225210.jpg

Next up will be to get it down on its wheels and out of the garage to make some room to work on the engine and gearbox. Garage could do with a proper clear out too. I've accumulated so much stuff in there.

keep it off the wheels untill shafts go in, you can trash the bearings moving it about. could put a couple old outer cvs in and nip nuts down to keep it mobile
