My '91 Driver has a grille in the scuttle with 4mm(?) holes in it to stop whole leaves getting in; but Shirley, over the years, smaller bits must get through and clog up the airways through the matrix?

Do the Gti models have the sophistication of a pollen filter?

Where's the easiest access to get a Dyson in there and suck out some crud from the matrix?

    Ta muchly :)

    Looks like parts 43 & 44.
Discontinued accessory by the looks although I am sure I have seen one before but not like that.

    Ah, thanks Dave.

Looks like the proverbial rocking-horse excrement may be easier to find then.

Will have to see whether I can't improvise something.

Never seen such a filter on any of my MK2s! Not on the G60, and not even on our old South African MK2.

I reckon it's probably worth asking this on VWVortex. Wouldn't surprise me if the US guys had it.

the mk3 used the same parts for the pollen filter as the mk2
    so on luck there
unless you can get one from a scrap yard
the top of the inlet vent is the same p/n on both mk3 and mk2

Well I've just splashed out for a MK3 filter on E-bay, so I'm committed to finding a bit to put it into now. [:o)]

    Anyone breaking a MK3? ;)

y a pollon filter needed in winter brrrrrrrrr anyway a solution for the leaves problem, get a pair of the wifes tights and wrap them over the grille in the scuttle this way you dont get any leaves no matter how small going down the grille and the added bonus of when you turn the fan on you have a nice eroma of gusset bringing home the meaning to a hard ride;)

The more air I can blow through the matrix, the warmer the car is...

But having seen how quickly the pollen filter on my g/f's Omega 'blacks up' (she likes to blow a lot...) I don't fancy running my cabin fan on high speeds knowing that I'll be breathing all the grit and dust that the scuttle can collect.

It's bad enough that one has to breathe in the carbon/copper dust from the motor brushes, 'black lung' anyone? [xx(]

...just a posh description of a pair of tights?

Sorry [:$], usually try to avoid these puns.

I'll have to see if I can find that Knecht one, cheers John.

    EDIT: I'm all confused now...

The Sussex Club "How to" is great, except it fails to mention the part numbers for these Knecht housings, and my quick Googling isn't helping yet.

The VW housing is obsolete for MK2, but if I vagcat a '93 MK3 I get a part number 1J2819640A, still showing as available at 10.75 Euro.
    No.19, and probably 21:

Is it just the Nissan-hut-shaped filter elements that can't be had from VAG any more??

Edit2: Hmmm, on closer comparison, the MK2 'option' filter holder and the Mk3 one are subtly different. Guess I can bodge the MK3 one in though.
