Evening all, I'm changing my Ford Kuga clutch next week, and thought I would spoil myself with a transmission jack. Now I've seen the prices I'm going to make one myself. So, I have a heavy trolley jack with a hole in the saddle, a length of rebar, and a welder. How wide should the claws be? How much curve? Cheers, Nick
You'll have to measure the gearbox and or make it adjustable? I found with the universal trans jacks used in workshops that the jaws weren't wide enough and too much of an angle to lift heavy 6 spd trans safely.

I've not done a gearbox on a Kuga tbh , but I think from memory its a Getrag 6 speed, those boxes are super heavy as used in Focus STs etc plus the extra 4wd gubbins. As above I would measure the box and make up an adaptor to suit.
Something more like https://www.motortrend.com/uploads/f/252341447.jpg?fit=around|770:481.25 but sized to suit my Kuga. What am I going to do with this bloody rebar then?
I used motorcycle engine jacks in our Mk2 Powershift. There's some pictures in my thread (went from the Plastic filled 6DCT450 to the 6DCT451). Subframe our job unfortunately. https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/the-joy.508672/
You can get proper heavy duty engine/gearbox jacks for not much money nowadays, good if you do these jobs regularly, otherwise just flog it after you done ! Beauty with these is foot jacking mechanism which lets you keep both hands on the load !
