Do the 1.4 16v engines have tappets? Mine sounds like the old fords (spoon in a bean can) tapping when cold or first started. So wondered if they had tappets? Thanks C
yes they will be hydraulic self ajusting ones if its badly due for a oil change that might help , some of us have also had success using atf (auto trans fluid ) in with the oil as a flushing agent if that dont help it might need new ones
They can be pretty noisy but if its really excessive, check the exhaust manifold. Mine was cracked in several places on my 1.4S and it sounded exactly like really noisy tappets!
Well i don't know if its tappets or the bottom end Thanks for the advice. I suppose it might be due an oil change, don't know when the last owner bothered
