My mk3 golf is a right shed and I just get weird looks if I wave to other dubs [:^(] When I had my other mk3 people always used to wave - first person to ever wave at me was vwj1m
Get a few waves round my way in the mk2. Infact i know most of the people round my way with nice mk1's and mk2's now. Best one i ever had was in my Mk2 polo, which was written off tonite incidently, (see other thread ) Waiting in a filter lane to pull inot another road and a mint split screen camper went other way. I gave the thumbs up and got a smile and wave and thumbs up from both driver and passenger. Thats what the VW scene should be all about
Used to get waves all the time when I first had a Golf mk2 GTI in about 1995 Now all you get as Den says is a blank stare as if to say, "who are you ,c*nt?" Edited by: GVK
I don't normally see anyone waving as I'm normally concentrating on not crashing. If I do I normally think they're tw*ts having a go at my driving.
the only guy i got a wave from was a kid in a baja beetle and thats cos i know him, that and a guy on a motor bike, it may have been my neighbour or just a random person messing around with the lights on his bike
That's the one thing I miss about selling my bike, it might have been a little one but you'd get a nod from anyone just about that was on a bike. [:^(] Only deliberate wave was in the Corrado when a guy crossed from the outside lane to the inside lane to wave at me just as I was exiting at a sliproad.
Very true ... most bikers will nod/acknowledge you I miss riding bikes [:^(] Even in the Golf though, all you get from other `dubbers` is the vacant gawp of ignorance. Edited by: superden
I find a Mk1, or a Mk2 Gti will give you a friendly wave back - Mk3's never do, too young cars and not enough of a "cult" car yet. I always stop for a broken down VW though, even if it's a new one - some dick in a Phaeton thought that my "Little golf" wouldn't be able to tow him, let alone 6 miles home. He thought a bit differently when I was towing him at 70mph in a 40 limit..... Blah blah blah, yes, safety, yes, other road users, blah blah.
Not everyone who drives a dub is an enthusiast. They're just pieces of machinery, at the end of the day remember, not people or anything.
Came as a bit of a surprise to me when I did my CBT and other riders were nodding at me in my big reflective bib and with my L plates on. Imagine that happening when you're learning to drive a car... "Ah, I see you drive a car. So do I! I'll wave at you to acknowledge our common interest in 4-wheeled transportation."
You are forgetting that the majority of people who own vw's do not even realise there is a scene as such, so why expect them to wave back. Think about it, if you were driving a another car, say your uncles fiesta, you wouldn't wave at every fiesta nor expect waves back.,
Surely VW parachute in a team of elite mechanics if a Phaeton breaks down, while arranging for helicopter evacuation for the driver to the nearest 5 star hotel?
Yep i do, i wave at most VW's all mk1's clean looking mk2's I like it when they wave back it feels like you driving more then a cra!py mk2 golf!!
I always get nods and waves, usually from older dubs, even aircooled. Got a big thumbs up from a Dutch Type 25 on phat Borbet A's yesterday.
but you know that some one driving a tidy mk1 or mk2 is going to be into cars, its not like my mum is rocking round in it.......
