    Hello,

I drive the blue Roma golf!!
The dry sump system is since 2008 in the car!!
    2 years with a 1.9 16v and 1 year with a 2.1 16v!!
Until this moment it never broke down!!

I run a Pace 3 Room pump with a 7 lt Pace tank!!
And i modify only the bottom of the tank to fit in place!!

Just thought I'd include my setup, I haven't seen it mentioned too often.

I have the EuroSpec 06A drysump system on my motor.

My car is a single seater, the tank rides where the passenger seat should be. (Makes for a nice cabin heater in winter!)

Local regs dictate that I have to enclose the tank, hence the box over the tank.

The tank was too big to fit in the engine bay and the weight is better off here anyway.

Did anyone find a complete dry sump kit or had any luck with the Pace VW Formula 3 pump?

As a single stage pump? Not recommended for anything other than an 8V.

Odd why you say that because I've seen some highly tuned 16v's use them and have no problems.

The F3 Pace pump its infact a 2 stage, 1 suction stage that pumps oil from the sump to the oiltank
and a pressure stage that pumps oil from the oiltank into the engine.

That setup was intended for an 8V that made max power around 5800 rpm ( all F3 engines made their power somewere between 5500 - 6000 rpm due a 24mm air-restrictor)

Often the argument is that it has been used in highly tuned 16V/20V engines, it has... but is it wise to go that route today ? NO !

The gerotors inside are small in comparison to what is used in other pumps who can pump more oil and can produce higher oil pressure, hence more safety margin.

Further there are clearance issues between the gear and conrod, so the gear need machined...ive seen a couple roll-pin break that hold the gear on the pump shaft (often due bad aligment)
and apart the Spiess setup ( no longer availlable) on most F3 copy systems the quality is just not there.

Most Other belt driven dry sump pumps are 3 stage in a 4 cylinder setup ( 2 suction and 1 pressure)

i had a titan pump on my valver, F3 gear driven style off the inter shaft. bronze gear held on with a roll pin. carillo rods. never had an issue....good pressures, minimal gear wear.

advice from the engine guy was that it was fine but he would not fit one to a turbo engine, even a 1400 turbo we were discussing at the time.

big benefit is that a hydraulic power steering pump can be retained in its stock pisiton as the install is very compact.

Is your water pump integral with the dry sump pump ?

Liking the build, but aluminium checker plate [:s] It might be what you had handy, but I used some for a Turbo heatshield and everytime I see it, I think "I need to change that, it`s fekking checker plate..."

I have managed to get my hands on a Spiess 16v block with all the pulleys, belts, pump, shaft and Spiess adapter plate

But the pump is from 1992 (Titan confirmed with serial number), and there are two teeth damaged on the gear for the intermediate shaft. The gear has no roll pin on it, looks like it was heated onto the shaft.

Will post photos when I'm better (been laid up in bed all week, staying close to a bog).

think i still have a bronze gear for the pump shaft somewhere, a new one, and a drain plug with metal screen. the idea was that the pump gear wore out before the intermediate shaft gear, being softer metal, and is easy to change with engine in situ in the event the pump jammed.

Every time I kill an engine, I think about dry sumps....

Even thought about the possibility of extending the sump and oil pickup for more oil volume too.
