If you look closer at the picture Nige, you will notice the short engine in the picuture is of a EA113 construction e.g. 1.8T, or FSI with a EA827 16v cylinder head fitted. These base engine blocks as we know, have cam belt driven water pumps a.k.a 'internal water pump'.

All these 1.8 /2.0 engine blocks use a different sump shape /pattern
    058 > 1997 external waterpmp /intermediate shaft
    06A -06B 1997 > internal waterpump driven by cambelt as 1.8T engines ( also 8V) MK4
    06F 2003 > as 06A/B but with oilreturn from cyl-head straight to sump as FSI /TFSI MK5
Code ? chain driven distribution as new TSI engines MK6 / Mk7

    The intermediate shaft
I had removed the roller bearing that should be on the right of the drive gear, the recess on the shaft where it goes a bit narrow is where the bearing goes.

What type of hose do people prefer to use for the suction side (feed from tank to pump) as it can be under a nice bit of vacuum. Earl's told me there prolite 350 hose is fine for that but I have heard other people sayingbu nedd to use a inner coil to stop it collapsing.
    Whats your opinions!?
@ RobT I remember seeing you using some pushloc hose with clamps on some of yours
