Interesting read: http://www.upownersclub.co.uk/vw-up/up-engines/ Ali block and head. 999cc and currently available in 60 and 75PS forms, and will be 113hp / 150ftlb in upcoming UP GTI. Got to be worth 160hp when Revo get hold of it? not bad from a 1L engine. Especially interesting when it will make 272PS https://www.motorbeam.com/volkswagens-new-1-0-litre-tsi-engine-produces-272-ps-270-nm/ Exhaust manifold built into head for improved heat management. Shown with turbo flange
Misha from Apex Nurburg has an Up which he's been modifying, think it's around 125hp at the wheels after chip tuning. JRZ suspension on it too.
The waste gate actuator on those are electronic and can be left open on cruise for better fuel economy but instantly closed when the turbo has to deliver boost. This was also seen on the EA211 1.2 TSI 4 cylinder. This 3 cylinder engine seems to copy some technology seen on Ford's Ecoboost 1.0 tri cylinder "Fox" engine. The Fox engine is mass produced in 125 and 140ps variants.
I wonder who will be the first to bring in the E-Booster/Turbo/Supercharger. I tried to find that out when looking into the 1.5 TSI Evo (VTG, 350bar injection ). Mazda are looking to be the first with HCCI/SPCCI engines. These are interesting times for ICE engines.
Audi already have electric turbo on the larger cars like SQ7. http://clubgti.com/showthread.php?269036-Electric-Turbos
Some interesting other tech too, but it will remain firmly in the unobtainium bracket for me new and used. I wonder when it will appear on something of the 1.5 TSI Evo class which in itself is allegedly the first non exotic featuring a VGT.
