Car: Mk2 8v Gti, full race engine GrpA apendix-k, k-jet, 302°cam, 100% racecar. Hi, can any one give me a hint IF an electronic adjustable ignition can provide any greater advantages over the OE ingnition unit. the car is given 98 or 102oct fuel. And will it provide any noticeable power figures in the top end of the register? If answer is yes, please specify.
It will definitely help, not huge outright power I would say, but driveability, wider torque band, and more reliability re controlling advance. Also a stronger spark, to ignite the mixture properly.
A bit of my thoughts to. Do any one in forum “tuned” a 8v whit k-jet and stand alone ignition that can share a ignition map possibly? Seems impossible to find what Bosch had for curves in the OE box…
My KR engine has a re-programmed Digifant ECU. Apparently they can be chipped. Unfortunately the guys who did it split and/ or quit with it, so I cannot refer to them anymore. But it is possible and I reccon more tuners know how.
Yes, something like Omex200, megajolt etc. etc. Would be nice if it can have built in or stand-alone MAP-sensor. No need for mutch moor then ingnition. any ideas of products to match?
Ran megajolt in a classic mini, trigger wheel and map sensor pipe, very simple to use, loads of maps on the Internet forums for many applications, sure there would be something suitable to start from. Look at the forums, maps, and suppliers. Was probably the smoothest running A series I've had (probably 40+ cars with them)
I turn my questions back this way again. Do any one have an ignition table for dx/ev/pb OE TCi ignition from BOSCH (screenshot from microfiche) Please see attached pictures for example: https://www.123ignition.de/ignition...340O338O356O369O350O321O365O335O/IMG_1302.jpg or Aftermarket system as below? http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq264/Twillz08/Volvo_Ign_map.jpg http://www.parayelectro.com/products/CDI/Help/images/MapEditorScreen.jpg
I came across this for the 16v a while back, MegaSquirt forum used to have a some stock ignition tables (years back!).
this one is kicking around various SSP manuals, found it in MK2 polo GK and also US digifant, so no idea what it actually is for
I found this in megasquirt forum, but think its quite ”lame” curve, and odd revs? Do anyone have any idea if a 8v can handle 40degrees on top?? Found this figure in an old how-to-race-your-mk1 https://photos.app.goo.gl/5mmg8dBehisJQSh29
Really you need to have a way of checking for knock when tuning, some use "Det Cans". My Mitsubishi had factory knock sensor and I logged the filtered "Knock Sum" when tuning. The Golf had a "safe" map and Water Injection.
