Hi there, I recently my brother bought a nice, good condition 1.8 GTI 8v (1986 D Reg). The colour is Tornado Red, but it has faded over the years and has quite a few of those white (water) marks on the paintwork...The previous owner said he never cleaned or polished it much....
However our can we tell whether it is Metallic paint or not? as we would like to try to bring the colour back....
Which T cut should we use?

Also The car has done 100,000 miles and the timing belt and drive belt has never been changed...We would like to change this...
Is this a straight forward job or should we get a mechanic to do it..........????? (Rough estimates from the garage is 90 - 100)
And finally I own a Golf Driver 1990 1.6 (141,000 miles) Sometimes if you put your foot down a little the car sort of hops first...as if the engine is being flooded.. Any suggestions what this could be ?????

on the colour, tornado red is a matt colour from my memory, a non metallic bright red. Try the red T-cut colour magic, that should bring it back pretty well. It worked great on my mums tornado red mk3 (albeit 6 years ago, but i think its still the same stuff).

yeah, t-cut colour fast (think thats what its called) is pretty mental stuff on faded paint.

yeah, get the belt changed a.s.a.p. or it could break and take the engine with it. unless your a pretty competant mechanic, get the garage to do it.

Use cutting compound on the paintwork where its really bad. Then colour polish it - as sometimes its not abrasive enough, then Autoglym it, then Zymol wax over the top. I had a tornado red car last, was a f**king nightmare.
