That's normal if you were touching the pins with the lambda i/p signal, or something else sensative on them.

Dull science bit from Trev, skip this post if you have a life:

The signal from a lambda sensor is of a very high impedance, and hence a lambda sensor input - such as on the ECU or AFR meter - will be of such high input impedance that it will respond to the voltages in your body. The input to your AFR gauge will be sensitive to the voltages in your finger when you touch the terminal. If you were to touch the lambda connection to the ECU, you'd likely screw things up. In fact a Bosch book explains a simple test procedure whereby you touch between the battery +ve and lambda input in order to make the ECU think the engine is running lean! The lambda connection to the ECU is very sensitive and even simply connecting a long floating bit of wire to it - which could act as an 'antenna' - could upset it. So it's good that you snipped the wire right at the lambda probe.

Bloody 'ell, fingers crossed matey [:D]

you know, the more i think about this, the more likely it looks.

Think about it, if the AFR gauge was causing rapid fluctuations in the
signal the ECU was recieving, the ECU would try to compensate, by which
time the fluctuation had dropped again, ECU tyies to compensate again,
by which time the fluctuation had risen again........etc.

Result? one very overworked and confused ECU!

Maybe i'm wrong, but it looks likely to me :)

Not just Duostyling - any AFR gauge should be connected to a separate probe.

hmm, still no word from neil, so either it's fixed and he was last seen
heading down the road on a ploom of tyre smoke with a big cheesy grin
on his fizzog, or he was last seen rocking on the spot muttering "i
    hate the g60, i hate the g60, i hate the g60...etc"

    [:|]

trev, cheers m8,that makes sense actually

and parz, thats annoying about the gauge shouldnt take power from the oe lambda,i think you are right in saying that, but according to the instructions thats how it should be done [:s]

the problem hasnt happened for the past couple of days, but it has farted/sneezed a couple of times upon pressing the throttle [:s] feck knows...

today i re connected the gauge with bullet connectors,no problems as far as running...but the weird thing is that the gauge is acting totally diffarently [:s]

it still fluctuates at idle but now goes off the scale(lean) to just ok/rich.and backing off the throttle it also goes off the scale(lean)

before it used to cycle between high end of ok to fully rich [:s] im thinking i must have disturbed something that suddenly made it work correctly? [:s] [:s]

pic, just so you know what im yapping on aboot...

big thanks to everyone for the help, again  i know i keep saying it,but its appreciated. :)

    neil.

ps:kev m8,glad you got it sorted, good luck sorting a refund etc.

Maybe disconnect the guage again, then put back in the original ECU and pulley, etc. - just in case? I can't think of anything else, it's a bizarre one......
