That's the mystery, isn't it? I'm betting the ECU was getting the "crank" signal ok, but not the "run" signal. So it was putting in plenty of fuel for a cold start, which was enough for it to run on for a few seconds. Either that or one of the AFM wires, because I've had cars do much the same thing before, when I've forgotten to plug the AFM back in!
