Surprisingly there's some E-mails going between ourselves (the Club) & our Footman James regarding why we've not been updated on the list, and some of the prices way high!

Faithless, I paid less than that for a identical base car to yours, and the two mk1's with all mods declared possibly in a higher risk postcode!

It does seem somewhat ridiculous for 'partner' for want of a better word to be refusing or issuing quote this high. I checked my postcode risk on a couple sites, one lists by letter rating, one by a scale. I'm low to medium risk on one and group B on the other. I paid less for my 1.4 mk3 with 1 years NCB in an E* rated postcode (* means motor bikes MUST be garaged to be insured and F* would be the lowest rating) than they want for my passat where i am now.

As i said, i had high hopes for this so i hope it gets sorted out.

I think they're very competitive on classic stuff. If you're trying to insure a modern mainstream car, then I don't think this is the right company for you. I'm very happy with my FJ deal - I have 5 cars insured for about 600 quid - but it's not for everyone.

Tried ringing them this morning on the mk2 20vt and got a flat no.... What a helpful bunch. Probably worth stickying that they don't like modifications. Having said that I just got off the phone with some daft bint at Brentacre who wanted 1300 to cover the mk2!!!

Just tried them. Discount still not registered on their system so couldn't grab that.

Not exactly blown away by the quote. 340 for me with 10+ years NCD and no convictions on the standard-ish Mk2 16v.

That's with mileage limited to 6,000. I'm with Admiral atm for 380 with unlimited mileage.

Not worth switching for me unfortunately.

FYI they have a normal number they give out to custmers it is 0121 561 6208, save you being on hold and paying for the privilege of it.

just had my quote for the mk4, both me and mel on it, 20k a year inc business use... 1057!! double my cheapest, (FJ were cheap for my first year and ever since then have always been really high for me oddly)

I think you are also extremely lucky they still cover the caged Rocco. They could by all means cancel on you now, stating that your car falls outside of their policy terms.

I will always in the future get a quote from FJ on a standard Mk2 16v though. For that, they are extremely competitive.

They were the best for me by miles.

335 FC with breakdown cover. Limited mileage(6k) classic policy so no NCB needed.

Mk2 Golf ABF with 280mm brakes, non standard wheels and non standard suspension. Stuff like wheels, suspension and seats made no difference to the price.

100 excess as well I think.

Cant fault FJ miles cheaper than any other quote i had and not being a paid member no discount (and i did a lot of ringing around!) hot postcode area i live in, beat the closest by nearly 200 and when i wanted to add a 2nd car namley a Rocco GTX they only wanted a further 48 out of me, id highly recommend them, may not be suitable for all but worth a ganders Malk

I'm not impressed. I have 10 years NCB and want to insure my 100bhp Bora. They don't even recognise Club GTI as a car club, so it makes me wonder if I'm wasting my time stuffing their leaflets in every membership pack I send out!

My own insurers renewal quote was 400. FJ wants 625 and doesn't include being able to drive other cars 3rd party. Bora is unmodified and I only do about 4k miles a year.

    Waste of time, imho.

    Anyone recommend anyone else?

They're really a classic/specialist insurer - You need to buy something older and more exciting :) I've got 5 cars insured for less than that.

There was a question asking if I had another car and I put Yes, (Mk2 Driver) but there were no more questions about it, or space to put any details.

So I'll not waste any more of my time with FJ.

Well it's a big thumbs up from me to footman James...

Hic wanted ( on so called classic policy ) 520.82

    Brentacre 470.99

    Footman James 206.54 :thumbup::thumbup:

That's mk2 golf Abf non standerd suspension, brakes and wheels
And me at 34 limited millage 3000 miles breakdown cover and agreed value at 3000
    European cover and fully comp.
Wow just wow thanks to the club for having discount with them and bringing the company to my attention [:D]
