    Hi all

Yesterday the gearstick became very ‘wobbly’ as it were. At least an inch of play in gears and just super loose when in neutral. I can’t seem to find it now but I did see a guide somewhere on replacing the linkages. I have about 1-2mm of upward play (if I pull up on the gearstick). Does this sound like housing issue or just the bushes? Need to make an order but unsure which to do, and really hoping it’s not the housing!

also, anyone know where I can get a weighted shift rod from online?

Thank you! Those are the same parts links that I found, however, the guide has no pictures ... all red 'x's.

Any idea if its a housing issue?

RJ's repair guide is also found elsewhere (GolfGtiforum.co.uk) with pics
I would think the repair kit will sort it - generally that's the issue from what I know
If I was to guess it might be 'ball' that's worn but if you're going at this I would recommend you replace everything and be done with it as it's a weak spot on the Mk2.

I’d message Martin aka hotgolf, of Gas N Gears, to get hold of one of his stainless shift kits.
    They’re absolutely gorgeous.

I did mine in three hours
The ball wore through the bottom of cup
Exhaust drop to be sure or out of the way

Wow you can change gear faster
    Hotgolf is amazing

I used topran parts in mine, they dont last long and you have play again, also used wighted rod, big difference.
The front ball melted from the heat on the headers, got some tape to wrap on to prevent that in the future.

Thank you all! I will definitely look into the solid rod but for now I really need this car back on the road. Today I’ve removed everything as per guide but I have a different piece compared with the pics can anyone advise if I should have this? Instead of that red round ball it’s a white cog like fitting that just slides on (won’t stay). How do I upload pics here?

If you have a white gear type thing on the vertical axis, on the relay shaft, that's a lot of your issue I'd guess. They should have a round ball, not too unlike a golf ball there, the white cog bit is the Centre.
I throw them away and fit a nylon roller there instead, transforms the shift.
I only did one on my diesel daily during the week.

Oh wow so I’ve only got the centre of the ball left!

    Where do I get a replacement ?

How do you upload photos (insert url) on the forum so I can show?
