    Hi all

So the Mk2 R32 is all up and running, this is just my summer car, not a daily but saying that I have already noticed the 5th gear at cruising speed is very high in the rpm range

    my setup is
    MKV 3.2 V6 Bub
    MKIV Golf V5 O2J
    MK3 VR6 lightened flywheel
    G60 Clutch kit

all I need to know is, what is a straight swap 5th gear? Any part numbers and guidance would be appreciated

Because it is an FBK gearbox, with a 3.94 FD.
I run one in my Oak Green 2.8 24v.
    70@ 5th = 3600 rpm on 195/50 15.
As most 02Js have the same gear spacing, I would suggest (off the top of my head) changing the FDR to say a 3.68 or better year a VR6 12v FDR of 3.39.

What many of us have done with gearbox selection would be to use a calculator, inputting full load torque profiles with engine speed, vehicle weight, gear ratios, FDR and wheel size, to determine the force at the tire patch as well as the effect differnet gearbox ratios have on road speed.

Look around the forum in the gearbox section for ratios and a link for a calculator.
