What is everyone using as CV boots. I was under the impression GKN were really good, but these are mine after 2 months and about 3,000 miles. The kit came with all genuine Oetiker clamps in various size and the book alright so I'm quite surprised
On various cars over the years I've used GKN from carparts4less, Febi from tierod69 on ebay and Topran from somewhere. All have been OK.
get in touch with seller and return id say, no way they should look like that after 2 months. either fake or bad batch, it may be though they've gone down the road of many over the years and starting making poor quality parts to stay competitive with the chinese garbage flooding the market suprprised they're rubber though tbh, the gkn stuff ive been buying is plastic (if you end up with plastic boot, you NEED the proper crimp tool. trust me)
Yeah I thought that, I've already put a claim in with Autodoc so at least I'll get my money back. Just wondering what route to go down next. I'm going to send an e-mail to GKN aswell just to ask, I know most/all of their boots are Chinese now, but if they've got good control thats not an issue. So unless I've just been unlucky, I'm not really sure. I mean I got them about 6 months ago I'd say but they've been fitted for 2? And they're really tough rubber, not like silicone or anything
I've used some J&R shafts on my cars and they have lasted ok so far (only 12mths). Have seen some negative reviews however they are pretty reasonable.
Just the included grease pouch, which was GKN branded. I'm 99% sure they were genuine, or at least very good fakes. I thought Autodoc sourced and sold all their own parts. Their Wiki page sort of implies that?
Also forgot to add - I thought i had an issue with one of the on my mk4 (sounded like the rubber part was hitting the knuckle, turned out to be a stickly caliper) and J&R sent me about a free replacement.
My friend runs j&r shafts on his Volvo, he is really pleased with no trouble in two years, I've used them for cv kits and seem good plus helpful when spoken to them.
I looked on their partners page. Who knows these days. I bought vw dipstick the other day because a JP aftermarket one had too much min/max area. The vw one looks almost aftermarket in quality.
Oh yeah good spot, that’s new though, i guess they’re doing it because it so much easier for them. I ordered my boots before that was introduced so they’re direct from their warehouse in Germany. Did you get it from Heritage or VW classic in Germany? Certain parts are “VW approved” aftermarket
Straight from the local stealers. The two plastic guides on the dipstick are different shade of yellow (to give them the benefit of doubt maybe the lower is higher temp) and the marks are faint compared to the original.
Try here. Recommended on another forum I'm on. 2 year guarantee so not a bad start. https://bailcast.com/
