Thanks for the tip rubjonny. Finally all of the powder coated items are ready for collection, so it will be nice to get the subframe on
Just waiting on the engine returning then...... plus 1000 other things to do on her

Cutting this with a grinder can be risky due to its location, pretty easy to cut in too far, best solution is to mask off the area (duct tape ) so you don't get any welding splatter and lay down some welds @ 3 points and it will fall off .
The fit of the bearing in this area is critical so you don't want to be cleaning up damage caused by grinder and chisel .

Offered her up and the D looks longer and I think may fit better, but what do I know how it should fit. I was surprised the circular part of the boot pushes through the bulkhead hole as I expected it to have a rubber lip to hold it in place

And I finally managed to collect the powder coated items and put pieces together. That is the less annoying parts of this project
If only I had remembered to order the ARB bushes... damn

I dont suppose that you still have your manual steering rack 192 419 105 out do you?. I would be interested to know how many splines there are if you could bear to count them and post the answer! Thanks

    Thanks, I wish.
    Just need the engine
    Driveshafts
    Hubs and brakes
    Time and a miracle.
    And even more money
If it can be anywhere as nice as yours, I will be happy

ok, update on the UJ situation

So. There are actually at least 3 boots! B is the original, D up to 87 and after 87 E. If you use D or E, you also need to change the cup on the steering rack to 357419193 which is round rather than egg shaped.

However having said that, the new E boots are actually marked D/E and this seems to be a universal part which can be modified to suit 2 styles of rack. If you look at pictures online and carefully at the base of the part you can see there is a section which can be cut out, which seems to suggest it can be modified to suit either type of steering rack...?

Finally had a call from the engine shop.... The cylinder head is redone. For the block refurb as well it comes in at 750 plus some VAT haggling.
Apparently the crank will be polished ( what the F is that as you don't see it being shiny ) piston rings, oil pump and god knows what else he said. I need to call round and see them.
    But that is all assembled
What are peoples thoughts on that?

Sounds like you’ve had pretty much an engine rebuild? If so, £750 is pretty good. My basic 911 engine build with a new clutch was £4.6k !!!

I have the hubs and brake calipers back from the blasters so maybe they can be painted too

Take the rough with the smooth they say.... In a rush with littlentime I fitted the SKF wheel bearings. And forgot to fit the inner circlip behind the hub. No worries, just push them back out and break them!
So I have just popped to GSF and bought some FAG ones. These come complete even with a new pinch bolt and nut, disc screw and tie rod nut. Wow. And less than £15 each for my early model, so bonus.
Hopefully fitting will go well later today. Then I can try to pop the front caliper pistons out for their refurb. I have had them media blasted and left the parts connected to hopefully stop grit going inside.
I also have the engine back but that is a different conversation
