Been working on rear callipers recently. Whilst trying to adjust handbrake cable nuts I noticed the dash parking brake warning light is on permanently even when handbrake completely released to bottom.
Can’t see the switch anywhere is it under carpet somewhere?

By any chance would you be looking at the low brake fluid level warning?
Though if you've been doing lots of handbrake action, the switch can get damaged.

brake fluid and handbrake warnings both on same lamp, so if handbrake switch checks out move onto level sender next

Cheers never even thought of a fluid level sensor it could well be low. just assumed that centre red light was just a handbrake on warning. Makes sense for it to be a dual warning light.

It's the go-to solution to the requirement for an easily-testable brake fluid warning. A strange method was used in the final ford cortina, which didn't have any provision for a handbrake warning when this requirement came in. A small button down by the drivers right knee served as the low fluid warning, which simply lit when pressed.
