Weird question, never really thought about it but which way should the dash switches face when turned off?

Mine seem to sit flat on the left hand side of the switch in the off position. (Except the headlight switch which is flat on the right hand side when off)

Only realised it might be wrong today when I saw the fog light bulb in the switch isn't really visible for the driver in the on position.

Has a previous owner flipped them on my car? See attached - all switches are off. Hazard switch seems correct for that position so have the other switches been flipped to match? Should they switch a different direction to the hazard switch on a RHD car?

what car? assuming MK1 or scirocco you may have the wrong switch set, as mk1 and scirocco switch are compatible but flipped
