Went out for a spin this morning and realised we're getting near the 80K mark... despite my best efforts to get a safe spot and stop as it turned round, just didn't manage it.

Was near to the new carriage-way in the background with bridges across for what were the old roads... no one seems to use them now and plenty quiet enough for a photo opportunity

If I can remember will try and come back every year to the same spot, keep a record of how things change over time.

Inaugural stone chips picked up and quite a few less flys in the world.

Don't you get the option to pay road tax on the "monthly drip" in Ireland? I do it for both the Skoda and Golf at £48 per month.

Yes, get all the same options you do but it works out cheaper to pay it all up front (over all and monthly) then cash it in when the time comes.

Might only be a pound or two a month, but I really begrudge giving them anything more than I have to.

I could possibly see through them back taxing from the start of a month or refunding for just full, unused months when it was paper discs but it's incredible in this digital age when it's all done instantaneously on-line that they don't calculate, charge / refund on a daily basis instead... change your car in the middle of a month and you effectively pay twice over, in any other walk of life they'd be up for fraud!

Another small job ticked off... getting the last of the extra gauges connected.

The oil pressure gauge sender I'd bought years ago, eBay seller virtually giving them away so wasn't going to nit pick that it's the twin pole version nor it being 1/8 NPT.

Even with an adapter it worked out a fraction of the price some seem to reckon the M10x1mm senders are worth.

Oil temp. senders are still cheap and being a very late car it has a third blanked off hole on the filter housing.

Not saying the MFA's accurate or not, but both the gauges readings corresponded exactly with those from it.

Looking forward to a dusk whizz-about and bathe in the green glow.

Approaching 250 miles since the MOT a week ago and only issue has been a small weep from the sump gasket at the 2 x bolts under the cover nearest the gearbox.

I'd previously swopped them for hex socket ones to help with removal in the future, can only assume they must've needed a bit more tightening than the remaining standard issue variety... anyhow its fixed things.

Had intended to put a few more miles on it before changing out the run in oil / filter but saying as I was already there just went ahead with it.

Noticed the MFA oil temp. readings will match the new VDO's exactly up to about 80 degrees then as it tails off towards the 90 degree mark (and will stay around there, plus or minus a few degrees) the MFA will usually continue on to between 96 - 104 depending on driving conditions.

Water temp just sits at the straight up and down regardless.

Neithers probably that dependable, but suppose it gives an average to work with plus hopefully one / other or both will tell tale any dramatic rises or falls.

The oil pressure gauge shows 5 - 6 bar on start up then gradually drops to 2 bar when things are up to temperature... if it's any way accurate and the inter-webs to be believed I think that's probably within overall range?

Starting to get a more lived in look already.

Gradually venturing up the rev. range as the miles go on and a thrum from the dash has appeared at certain speeds / times.

Disappears again if you pressed down on the leading edge where it meets the screen.

Had a roll of this closed cell foam stuff, 1cm x 1cm (left over from the gear lever box gasket) which'll push in along the entire gap and you'd never even know it was there.

It's adhesive on one face, but it's such a snug fit there's no need to remove the backing and create problems down the line should you ever want to take it out again.

Sods law that the handbrake warning light has just popped, so had to go back into the dash and sort things out after having it apart a day or two ago for the gauges.

You'll remember I'd cut around part of the housing to accomodate the upper oil temp. gauge, but the illumination part is as before so the white connector pictured still just clips into the rear of the red panel.

Didn't want to go down the LED route as none of the others are... these modellers rice grain / wheat grain bulbs are a straight replacement.

Over compensating for something with the industrial strength soldering, but it does the job!

Finally found the stash of images I'd taken in advance of working on the car, more for a reference of how things were than to show anyone.

Date on the image is nearly two years ago to the week, though the car sat as you see it for more or less 10 years before that again... not pretty (and there's worse!)

@Admin @rubjonny is it possible / not too much work to move this thread out of the members only section to the general members gallery?

I originally posted it here to avoid unwanted attention... got my fingers burned on another forum from spammers / porn pushers when my details were harvested, but the paranoia's passed now.

    Cheers.

Ended up SORN'ing the cars and haven't really looked at them since... too much else going on, but that's now since sorted itself out.

Finally put the sunroof deflector on, been sitting in a corner waiting on me tracking down the fittings that I misplaced when I didn't put them back in the box last time it was out.

Semi-universal so there's a few extra un-needed holes that are plugged depending on the car it's being fitted to.

Wonder how many of you'll recognise some of the names on that list!

Just uses simple stainless hooks that go under the existing corner lips of the sunroof opening, easily reversed with no drilling etc. required.

Took off the window deflectors... passenger side one was just in my line of sight if pulling out of a junction for example and the perspex was distorting the view.

The flaps seem a bit gimmicky, jury's out until I can try it properly on the open road. Think the idea's you point them down as in one of the images and not up, directs air down into the cabin on demand.

Was winding up a thread for Isaac on another forum now that he's more or less done and took these images yesterday for it.

He'll also be going into the garage over winter soon, so not much scope for new posts on here either for a while. The Up's going to have to carry the torch alone for the foreseeable instead

What with the clutch issues towards the end it meant I didn't get anywhere near enough time to enjoy him while the weather was good, but even so still managed to rack up around 500 odd miles... sooooo looking forward to 2023!

Cheers, only took me 12 years!

It's going to get used, just like the 205 already does and all being well the MK1 eventually will do too, so this is as 'clean' as it's ever going to be.

As the miles pile up should hopefully take on a lived in, used look... each to their own, but I personally much prefer that to it being super shiney or better than new.

Zender Sterns/Stars in 15x7" et 25... catalogued for MK1 and 2's so a perfect fit.

Looking into suitable tyres, but don't want to go too far from standard dimensions and 205/50 x 15"s seem to very closely match the specs. of the factory 185/55 x 15"s in combination with the regular BBS RA's (15x6" et 35) that I'm running at the moment.

Usefully 205/50 15"s also seems to be a size that has a reasonable selection available.

Anyone with a similar set up (size / et wise) to the Zenders with 205/50's and can post up a piccie or two?
