the mk3 v-belt pulley should split off from the ribbed one, they can be a bit stuck tho :) but the abf crank pulley is 037105243B, good luck finding one for reasonable money though!

    Update - I killed No 4 cylinder

well after 8 years the engine let a valve go on no 4 cylinder inlet , i actually completed the race on 3 cylinders and did a 15.4 sec @ 80mph ( valve went just after 60ft )

so back to the drawing board and decide on the future spec for the 16valver , i was aiming for a 12.98 1/4 mile NASP with the new gearbox ratios . clutch and i finally converted to cable shifter set up.

not too much damage to the bore so should be ok with a Hone , problem is i cannot get 1 replacement JE Piston as they are custom made pistons

so future plan is to go NASP Only and try for the 12.98 sec 1/4 with 200bhp

What's special about the JE Pistons ? Sure Nige is running standard ABF Pistons and I know they're good for well past 200 bhp .

    Damn [:x]

As you know, I had exactly the same failure and that destroyed my block too ! You were luckier than me in that respect.

Custom compression ratios Mike. Easy to buy pistons with the required CR and have things like deeper valve pockets and correct squish band without risking failure of a machined OEM piston.

Sorry to see this Brookie. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Do you know what caused the valve head to drop off or was it a random failure? Brand of valve?

Have read through this over the past week on my lunch break. Have really enjoyed reading about the journey and progress you have made. Would love to build a similar spec engine for my car too :).

Missed the gears and few times on the Saturday due to new box and cable shift set up issues and hit max rpm i think , the valve snapped off the end of the stem .

they have been in 8 years so had a good run out of them.

Fair play. 8 years is going well for a race engine.

Just looking at the spec options for the new rebuild -

    Wilder race cams
    Higher compression
    Bigger injectors
    Mapped on Race Fuel

    220 - 230 bhp target power

    Options -

The 16v will be getting rebuilt but also looking at options to make do in the meantime ;)

    Here's some food for thought

2.0L 20V ALT Block weight compared to the 16v ABF Block

    ABF 16V - 42.8KG

    2.0L 20V ALT Alloy block 19.4KG

oh look what i found a low mileage 2.0L 20V ALT Engine , i wonder what power that will push out with 45mm ITB's bolted onto it ? 24kg lighter must be worth 10bhp and we can always put more Nitros through it
