I booked and paid for a session, but I won't be ready in time unfortunately. Very frustrating.
Does anybody want to take my booking? I'll give you 15 off! :)

I may try and go along and hitch some rides anyway.

    Thanks. That's a good idea.
The Classic Touring Car Club is at Brands Hatch on the 30th July, so I reckon that will be the first outing, hopefully.
The inside is ready for paint now.

Thanks! Post #1 seems a long time ago!

I made a battery bracket to go in the passenger floorpan. It's a bit OTT, but I enjoyed making it and got carried away.
It sits on 4 uneven aluminium posts, so it sits level on the uneven floorpan.
The Battery Isolator also hides in there. It's easy to get to with the 4 knurled knobs ontop. I even bored the middle of these out because they seemed a bit heavy, silly, I know.
The whole thing will be earthed to the shell.
Some foam or rubber will go around the battery so it doesn't move or rub.

    Thanks.
I saw your thread the other day. Your car is great! I have never welded with back-purging (although I never really do stainless). How were the welds on the inside, did it make much difference?

I also did a foot plate. I've got some tiny rubber edge trim to go around it before install to prevent rattling. It's just held in with rivnuts.

    Cheers,
back purging with stainless is deff worth the setting up time. if you do it right it looks like you welded it on the inside. get the joints as tight as possible and you won't need any filler rod.
nice foot plate, rivnuts are the best

The interior is painted, and I started placing items.
I've decided to paint the outside too.
I went with a 70% gloss to keep any reflections down.
The seat support metalwork isn't pretty but it was done in the 90's probably. It's strong though.

There's a gap where the passenger seat would be because I need to leave space for ballast, if I ever need to use any.
    The brake line needs redirecting.

You'll be too scared to race it if you keep on buggering about with paint and fancy aluminium fabrications Lol.

I know what you mean though, you start out and then think 'well, only needs a little more time or money and I could...........'

    All looks good :)

    Thanks you two.
Ha. SO TRUE Tony! I think I'll only be terrified of smashing it for a couple of races, then all the hard work will be forgotten and it will just be a race car again.
I am more worried about it going up in a fiery inferno - nothing can be saved then. Which is why I went for the best extinguisher I could get.

Skywalker, the silencer has your name on it and I am 95% sure you'll get it. Thanks for your patience :)

Can't beat a well prepared car, attention to detail. I know what Tony means i have raced a battle scared car for years.

But something nice about a spot on looking car.

    Cheers.
So much more is expected these days in club Motorsport. I recently looked back at some pictures from the early Clio cup days when my dad was out supporting the BTCC (early 90's), and most of the teams are still with vans and trailers. Anybody who's seem the Clio cup Paddock recently will notice the difference.
It's the same with car preparation. Alot is just show, but a professional team needs to add those details.

I also saw the standard of some of the Pre-83 championship cars, they are really smart and mine needed to be improved - many run at Goodwood etc.

It would be well presented that car, and something we would be happy to put on a display, for some of the shows we attend.

    Hi James.
The car had to go back in storage unfortunately, work went crazy and I can't turn it down.
I finished prepping the outside for the re-spray, so I'll get that done in January when work may be quiet...
    Hope you are well.

Understand, you would be foolish to turn work away.

Hopefully you get it done & use it next year.

This is a blast from the past, 5 years since the last one. I've since sprayed the car back to factory silver, it's looking great.
I fitted new wings and bonnet just to make it super-straight and tidy. Lots of new bits going on and a new loom....
.... but then I have to sell it unfortunately, I just need the money for business and baby. It won't be cheap and cheerful, but if anybody would like a very smart and fresh Ex-slick 50 race car, please get in touch - samfishy at gmail dot com.
