I'm sure it'll be on here somewhere, but I have just spent a fruitless hour trawling through old posts. Guys, help me out please. Bulkhead hole where master cylinder fits is about 36mm diameter. Later 22mm cylinders have a spigot of about 41mm so will not go through the bulkhead. Also, without chopping the pedal box about (which I may..) there is no way the 41mm spigot will go through and bolt up if you enlarge the bulkhead hole. I need a cylinder to shift more fluid than my usual option of using the 1100 non servo type. From the mornings research, the master cylinder bore options are; 1100: very early: 17mm 19.8mm 20.64mm 22.2mm The car is 65% built and will initially be on G60 front calipers (54mm) and steel rear calipers (36mm). My question is what's biggest bore master cylinder that can be made to fit the mk1 bulkhead/pedal box? If there isnt an obvious answer to this, I'm looking an making a spacer adapter to fit the 22mm master cylinder about 30mm out from the bulkhead, if that makes any sense. Looking forward to the answer, its possibly way simpler than I am making it sound Jon Piccy added, cos everybody loves a piccy...
Some more pics to illustrate the issue, first the bulkhead hole: Here the bigger spigot of the 22mm master cylinder, too big for the bulkhead Next the stock to make the spacer; Next the size of the 22mm cylinder spigot;
Hi Jon, what about one of the wilwood or similar master cylinders, different sizes and even remote reservoir. Looked at them for the mini when had that, and years ago on a 100e with fiat twin cam.
Just finished a corsa B electric PS conversion on it and got all the road legal electrics done. To tear that lot back to bits just to mod the pedal box would be a step backwards. Yes, I know I should have mocked the brake master up first........... Wilwood masters are on inch centres and wont bolt up easily. (dont think the will anyway). And, there must be a VW solution, I cant be the first to use G60 calipers without a servo, can I? Jon
Is it for clearance that you are removing servo? Mgf has servo on opposite side to pedals ?!!? Might be completely dreaming, but did mk1 caddy have a rod system putting servo on gearbox side? May be wrong, but is that it? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303742782975 Guy I got my back seat off has that for sale, got contact info if needed.
Servo is weight, if you can avoid it, its a saving.. Going forward to machine that spacer, unless someone comes up with a better solution. Jon
