Mk2 8v fuel consumption figures

    my weber 1.6 carb gives me a crappy 50-60 miles to a tenner, thats about 25-30 mpg, and thats easy driving.

    Im constantly messing with ignition timing, as the Haynses manual's "17-19 degrees BTDC" does not agree with my engine. constantly smells rich and runs with a nice pop at the exhaust.

    Im now getting 30-40 mpg after bunging some fuel system cleaner in (slick 50 f/inj cleaner) before my mpg was poor & it defo feels better for it

    I always thought the mfa was sales bs! I get around 40mpg on my mk2 gti but I tend to adopt hyper miler techniques
