    The Build Thread

Owner said somewhere TSR said they'd probably never do it again as it was too much trouble. Don't know if that was just a joke though.

haldex conversion in a mk2 golf isnt as difficult as people think. I converted mine with some mates and have hardly any mechanical expertise.

All - Please ask technical questions in the technical forums, and don't get into opinionated discussion on TSR's Trade Section. These sections should be used for purchase enquiries.

Also, if you want a quick response from our busy traders, it's probably better to ring them.

VR6Will was working on one of these I believe.

Also I know a guy who rallies an Audi TT on single venue events. For simplicity and reliability, he's converted the Haldex rear diff to be permanent 4WD. The electronic clutch in the haldex has been dowel pinned to override the ECU, and it's got a freelander centre diff grafted into the drivetrain. Might be useful ideas for someone.

Wow, I don't like to be disparaging of other people's workmanship but that's pretty rough for a place that purports to be a VW specialist! I notice they have cut an welded the lower arms, I wonder if they have done anything to correct the geometry?

And considering PhatVR6 has a (self built i.e. not a "VW Specialist") well executed, properly engineered Corrado complete with 24v engine and 4x4 drive-train he's entitled to his opinion about the exhaust

Do you have any(more) information on this?

    Thanks

wow alot of work, so has he made a new rear frame, then welded the rear s3 subframe to that, then shorted drive shafts, track control arms, making them adjustable ? intertesting stuff

the one thing that makes this a lot easier is to use a bigger exhaust tunnel
the corrado/golf g60 /golf rally and syncro all have a bigger exhaust tunnel
    than the standard golf gti
even the mk3 golf has this a bigger exhaust tunnel probably for the vr6
but then again you do get syncro mk3 in europe

a remarke that is spot no in my view

it would have been a lot easier to weld in the bigger exhaust tunnel

Surely it would have been easier to transplant in a Rallye/Synchro beam/floorplan, and use the Dutchdub Synchro-Haldex conversion kit to mount the diff...

mixed comments then, i still think its goin to be one hell of a car, i havent seen any in the uk built without using any syncro parts as in full haldex, i see what people mean by using the dutchdub conversion but then thats just even more of a cost, i cant wait to see the finished job...

im liking that idea, so if obtained syncro floorpans/boot floor, use the syncro subframe, mount haldrex using kit, could be possible, less hassle conversion

i see what people are saying but to get another tunnel is goin to cost either to get another car to cut it out of or to try an get hold of a new panel...

what i think they have done looking at the pictures is taken the down pipe through the hole thats there from the factory were if it was LHD the steering rack would go though then under the seat an out the back so all they have done is cut one hole which would take 2min which is better than cutting the hole tunnel out an rewelding the new piece into it...

tho would that mean the centre console wouldnt fit as the tunel is higher an come to think if it the matrix is only a cm or so above the tunnel so that would maybe mean changing the matrix for a rallye one???

how are they sealing up the entry and exit point where the exhaust runs through the shell? lots of movement/vibration/expansion issues there

get hold of some furnace blanket to help insulate the thing.

the big tunnel is really the best way to do things, or do a side exit exhaust

have a look how chris did it

mind his mates had a lot of experience with 4x4 mk1s and 2s, so i imagine he had lots of advice from thos who'd done it before

i hazerd a guess it would be well wrapped, a bigger tunnel would be the best way but theres no point makeing things harder by changine the tunnel when i can be done a simpler easyer way, theres no wrong or right way to do it either way will work fine...

i think there will be loads of problems with the exhaust in the shell like that. Hope they have a cunning plan
