    little update:
New scuttle arrived. the old one was fine, i just wanted a cleaner look. the car is far from OEM so i'm not fussed by the originality of it

its always been like that, i had to get a BAM oil tower thing to get it to sit at the right height but i don't think its really made for the AGU, so it sits weird

A little upgrade with the steering wheel to an OEM leather wheel. It needs a clean and i'll condition it all up again, but its a nice upgrade thats not some racing wheel

I have thought long and hard about engine mods and have decided to just stick with what i have. I'll just keep working on the car and engine to refine it more but i just don't think its worth the time and money to go after more power at this point. If the engine dies at some point then i'll change up then.

So i've ordered a silicone TIP just to help it breathe a little better and avoid any compression of the intake.

I've ordered up a new airbox and am going to fit an OEM style airbox rather than the Ramair filter which was only ever supposed to be a temp solution. I'll need to mock up some mounting brackets for this.

Visited a body shop and got a quote to have the engine bay stripped and painted as well as having the bubbles under the screen repaired.

Going to drive it this summer an then strip off all the pastic arches and get that sorted at the same time.

The TIP arrived so i took the old one off to do a comparison and install the new one:

It's just a normal sized one, nothing fancy... But you can see the main difference in the area that joins to the turbo, much wider and less restrictive. It will be interesting to see if this makes any difference to the way the car performs.

The main issue i have with it is the way it sits compared to the old TIP. I am goign to be fitting an OEM airbox in this location anyway but it will for sure need some trimming.

Picked up a new airbox for the golf last week. Just need to figure out how i'm going to mount it.

I know that i will need to trim the TIP, thats ok, thats nice and easy..best way to do this i fount is put a hose clamp on it and tightem up to where you want to cut, this is then used as the barrier for the knife to cut against. You get a clean cut and its not all wonky.

I was thinking about getting some 2mm thick steel flat bar and just welding up a simple bracket that connects onto the gearbox. Theres a couple of unused mounting points that i have circled in red.

the main issue that i can see is that the gearshift tower and the airbox might fowl.

I have one of these air box's (used) and thought that i would use the bracket to this marked point on the box. I can then assess how much more support that it requires. The only issue with this box is that it does not have the hole for ignition amplifier, but this can easily be cut in.
The MAf fits it, so thats fine.

That looks very clean. Who made the rain tray?

Reminds me of a car around here that had similar.

What does it drive like with power steering? I’m undecided as to whether I should fit it or not.

I’ve never felt I had an issue with my mk2’s feeling ‘heavy’.

That is a preference and age thing.

Personally, I can never see myself without it, having driven my share of MK2 vehicles without.

I’m very tempted as this Mk2 will be much heavier than the previous ones due to the Syncro stuff, I’d like to drive one with before I decide though.

    Yes to the age thing.

i wouldn't want to be driving about in one without P/S, you can feel everything that the car is doing and you don't have to get pump arm just getting off the driveway

    10 Faults Found:

18044 - Powertrain Data Bus: Missing Message from Airbag Controller (not sure if this can be permanatly erased or not?)

    P1636 - 35-00 - -

18259 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs (Not sure what this is)

    P1851 - 35-00 - Please Register/Activate

16885 - Vehicle Speed Sensor: Implausible Signal (16885 P0501 Vehicle Speed Sensor - Range/Performance - im guessing this is because the gearbox does not provide an electrical signal anymore and insted it does a mechanical action to the rev meter)

    P0501 - 35-00 - -

    01249 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs (01249 P0201 Cylinder 1 - Injector Fault -N30 )

    29-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent

    01250 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs (01250 P0202 Cylinder 2 - Injector Fault -N31)

    29-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent

00544 - Maximum Boost Pressure Exceeded (00544 Maximum Charge Air Pressure Exceeded)

    35-10 - - - Intermittent

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everything listed as intermittent, this could be down to the tinkering that i have done over the last few months. i'll have to run it up on the driveway and scan it again now that i have cleared the faults.

the only things that are probably an issue would be the 00544 maximum charge aire pressure exceeded and the N75 valve..and that part looks like its original.

Any thoughs on this from the people in the know?
