Oh it’s getting 16” bottle top splits. These are track wheels for the time being, if they fit and they do!

So after spending 3 days putting a new (wrong) engine into my daily, I’ve bought some mk2 bits home to refresh whilst I’m off for the week.

Starting off with the badges, I’m still in need of the small 16v one and an early GTi 16v badge for my grill, if you’ve got one, drop me a message!

Here’s what they looked like before I started.

    DEC41B51-034D-40F1-BD0A-C33B21A606D2.jpeg

I started off giving them a light sanding, take off the silver and any imperfections and a good clean ready for paint.

    Into the paint booth.

Then another clean, I applied the lettering I got from Grafshed and then applied a coat of lacquer so I didn’t have to worry about the stickers falling off when cleaning or whatever.

I think they look fantastic personally.

Then I got my two centre consoles...

I need to use the right one, and I need the electric switches out of the left one...

    And then some chopping.

    Then the same again!

Then I got some glue stuff, it’s weird. And made sure the faces fit, they’re slightly different shape (not from my poor cutting either) so I’ve had to fill some gaps in and this is how we stand...

I’ll leave it to set overnight and take the tape off in the morning. It’s grey so I’ll have to paint the glue stuff black to match. I’m feeling confident.

Definitely, I’m well pleased. Just need to source a 16v grill badge and a 16v rear badge to do

Sadly, I’m super fussy about that stuff, and it’s all for the later mk2

Just need to tidy up the join and retexture and we’ll be sorted.

So that I don’t forget, I was speaking to Master John earlier about 02m gearboxes and speedo signals.

He suggested using a Corsa B electronic speedo unit, with an arduino to rectify the signal. To work with VW speed signals, which puts out 4 pulses for everyone 1 rotations, and the 1540 on the clocks, multiplied by the 4 pulses is 6160 and the Corsa clocks are 26838. So if you multiply the VW signal by 4, it gives you 24640. Almost dead on for the Corsa clocks. Meaning 160mph clock face will line up almost perfectly.

So I’ve bought some Corsa clocks, and when I returned to the UK, I’ll take them apart and get it fitted, get the code sorted and go from there.

I’ve even got an arduino in my car for the Haldex controller so I’ll just tap into that!

    Here are the clocks.

Does the corsa head fit mk2 clocks? Or are you going custom dash? Would a set of mk3 clocks be compatible, or mk4, then not use arduino?
    Just out of interest really

So it fits in the Mk2 clocks, and using the face of the Mk2 speedo, you’d never know!
Yeah something 02a from a mk3 but it doesn’t fit into the Mk2 clocks so you just use those clocks but they’re ugly.

not without modification, but its pretty close. the mk2 speedo face will fit except the trip counter is slightly off, plus you need the right age cluster as the milage can move about depending on age (some centred, some right aligned, subtly different pre/post 90)

few ways round it, blank off the trip counter with black paper behind, have custom dial faces made, mod the cluster to move trip counter. I'm thinking about getting some glow dials from here:

if you can find a set the mk2 seat ibiza poverty spec has same deal, and works direct from a mk2/3/4 speed sender. but they only come in 120 and 140, and uk mph versions are like rocking horse. can get from ebay.de but the milage/trip will obv be in km even if you change speedo face

If its mk2 ibiza, would that be same as the seat inca van, mk2 caddy style, but ibiza front and different dials and trim to the vw version then? Had an sdi one previous and swapped to gti clocks, Bah, I should never throw stuff away!
May have to find corsa on my travels, obviously when can travel again properly.
Got set 3.5 cab, and 2 sets mk2 golf clocks so may be worth a play at some point, ready for the o2m in the future.

Along with many other parts, I’ve acquired this..

it’s a GT2871. So that should be alright for a little bit of power. Anything over 300 would be cool to start with.

Need to get a v band wastegate flange and weld that on. And hope it fits under the bonnet
