Well it’s getting better, I bought some new tungsten and that helped, different gas too. Now I need more Ali and to actually clean it because I didn’t clean the previous stuff

Im glad I’m not the only one! I went through an entire bottle of gas and my welds are still no better than the day I first bought my machine. So many variables that I struggle to identify where I’m going wrong. I need to buy another bottle of gas and keep trying.

Haha, really!? Yeah, I’ve found writing down the settings and what I’ve done helps massively, it also means I can identify the weak point.

It was learning how to set the machine up, then the tungsten, and then how the metal worked to start with on the weld. Lots of foot pedal then bleed it off.

I don’t have a foot pedal, just a trigger on the torch which I think is half my battle. I can get decent welds on a single flat piece for metal, but when I try join two bits together it’s like starting from scratch again! Absolute mess.

might try order a pedal and some fresh gas and have another stab at it.

ah okay, is the trigger not variable? Mine is, but I struggle to use it.

I’ve not attempted to join two bits yet, as I want to get the motion dialled in

Not *quite* the mk2 but got to do an engine swap on my newly acquired A3 tomorrow. Unsure what to do with it tho.

Hit every hurdle known to man yesterday so I gave up.

Got it back in this morning.

Should be ready to fire in the next hour or so.

Oh yes. I've been that soldier.

Reminds me of the time I removed the blown 1.8t out of my mates mk2, to replace with another.
Missing bits, bits not fitting, wrong bits and botched bits.

It’s all back up and running now though. I had to basically remake most of the pointless PVC system, and I turned the key, it ran like **** wtf!? Lots of head scratching etc I’d missed a line off the inlet manifold which was causing it to have a hissy fit, popped that in and bingo. We are sweet as a nut!

Soooo… China is off the cards which means the Mk2 is back on.

Fuel cell stuff.. I’ve got 3mm Ali at work, just need to take some dimensions.

Have you seen the price of 1.8t rods!? They’re holding the engine up

Would you not use engine mounts instead?

    Ba doom tsschhh.

Actually, I've 1.8t Pauter rods here, I must measure the little end.

Either size, I’ve got multiple sets of pistons, 19&20mm

Bloody hell! And here’s me complaining at the £350 set, they’ll definitely be out of budget!

Fair enough, because they were in a car briefly, I wouldn't be thinking of full price, but might still be a bit too much for you.
