5 years later and I’m back on with this.

I fired it up on Saturday so it still runs which was great. I’ve ordered a new battery and box for mounting in the boot.

The cars back at the body shop, they are going to do the new brake lines and fit the front seats.

Then I’m hoping to take it to a place called ACR, the guy there Andy did the loom for me originally and I’m asking him to finish the engine side of it.

Then when it’s back it can be painted and put back together.

I’ll update in 5 years

Your vibratech Front engine mount - does that allow you to run the engine oil cooler too? Or did you have to run an external cooler? Trying to find Kent o fit the Mk3 subframe so i can run the std cooler :(

I have the Mk5 cooler in there. I modified the standard VW mount that attaches to the vibreatech one.

Ah ok cool. Slimmed it down presumably..? Think it needs modified anyway to accept the vibra mount.?

No, it fitted unmodified when it had a VR6 engine, I think I modified it so I could use the Mk5 oil cooler, nothing to do with the mount.

Having said that, it was a long time ago.

The car moved under its own steam today for the first time in 8/9years, brakes and clutch are plumbed in and working fine.

I had the front callipers the wrong way round, now sorted and some HEL flexis fitted.

The radiator is fitted and filled but brought a load of muck into the header tank so that needs a good flush through.

The guys at Nu Look Motor Bodies are making some custom mounts for the front seats and I’ve got some Mk3 bits off Dodgy to help with fitting the rear seats.

I’ve got the Mk5 looms to swap for the Mk4 stuff and Toyotec has de immobilised and removed unneeded stuff from a Mk5 ECU for me. Just need the Mk5 loom modding to be plug and play in the Mk2 and I can get it painted [8D]

Few more years and it will be ready for its MOT

Nice job! Are you doing the mk5 loom yourself? And diagram help info? I’m doing a mk1 r32 swap....
What gearbox did you use in the end? I’m going for a 02a from 96 vr6.
    Keep up the good work

    Thanks :)

I’m not doing the loom myself, I just can’t get my head around it. There are wiring diagrams in Rubjonnys sig and I’m using the Mk3 VR6 box but have a V5 EBS as a spare.

Seats are in, they are from a Mk6 GTI and near new condition. I think the colours will go well with the car

They look great, I’ve always wanted to fit a set but I just can’t do it.

They look brilliant in there, good choice.
    Were the mountings hard work?

    Not for me ;)

He made a plate to go in the Mk2 runners then bolted an angled section to that. I’ll post up some pics soon

Was a little disappointed with my sparco runners when I saw them, very simple and if I'd seen pictures beforehand I would have made them.
Sure similar would be useful to mount later vag seats, did have leon cupra R seats in my mk2 caddy, but they were mk4 style so fitted by modding runner wheels and front mount in car.

These are flat bottomed so could be done easy by welding in 4 plates.

Think after mk4 the seats from vw are flatter bottoms, got told that A4 seats fit the polo even, not sure if it's a standard bolt pattern now, or not.
The sparco frame is basically angle iron front with a tab to fit golf seat adjustment pin, then beam that bolts sandwich plates in the rear guides then up to cross bar, seat runners then bolt to that.
Probably would have gone newer vw seats if hadn't kept sparco ones from the mini.

    Hi,

Your car's looking great. I've just dropped a bub engine into a type 19 MK2, but for some reason the engine is sitting to high and not allowing me to close the bonnet. Which mounts did u use on your install.

    The seats look wicked too.

    Thanks
    Bobby

It is the engine mount on the driver's side that needs cutting down.
